As Extension Agents, Specialists, and Researchers of the LSU AgCenter, we strive to bring producers research based information to enhance livestock production and profitability.
According to USDA APHIS “The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed the detection of a New World screwworm (NWS) in a bovine in Zavala County, Texas.”
The article from APHIS as well as some biosecurity resources from the LSU AgCenter are linked below.
We will keep you informed as we find out more. Be diligent in monitoring your livestock and pets, especially those with open wounds and newborns. Reach out to your local veterinarian, LDAF or your local Extension Agent if you suspect a NWS case on your operation or if you have questions regarding the NWS.
