Genesee County Sheriff's Office will increase its presence around schools in the county in lieu of yesterday's horrific tragedy in Texas. These patrols are in addition to School Resource Officers already in place in nearly all the school districts in Genesee County. We are committed to the safety of our children and all that are involved within our educational facilities and will continue the increased patrols for the foreseeable future. It is of the utmost importance that any concerns of suspicious activity be brought to the attention of school officials or law enforcement authorities as soon as possible. If you see something, PLEASE say something.

Sunday, May 1, was the start of National Correctional Officers' Week. To the amazing Correction Officers that work at the Genesee County Jail, thank you for all you do, day in and day out.

On May 5, 1984, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the first full week of May would be observed as National Correctional Officers’ Week in recognition of the important role these officers play in our criminal justice system.

The position of Correctional Officer, once considered merely that of a “guard,” has become increasingly more complex and demanding, involving simultaneously custodial, supervisory, rehabilitation, and counseling roles, and that complexity continues to grow.

The lights on the Old County Courthouse cupola will change red, white and blue to acknowledge this week. Also, the Genesee County Legislature issued a proclamation at last week’s April 27 meeting recognizing May 1 – 7, 2022, as National Correctional Officers’ Week.

“The important and difficult role Correctional Officers fulfill is not always recognized or realized by the general public,” stated William A. Sheron, Jr. “If you know a Correctional Officer, please join me in thanking these men and women for the exceptional service they provide every day.”

On April 8, 2022, Deputy Sheriff Andrew Mullen and K-9 Frankie assisted the Wyoming County Sheriff's Office during a traffic stop on State Route 20A in the Town of Perry:

The operator and lone occupant of the vehicle identified himself as Andy LAM. During a roadside interview, the Wyoming County Deputy established reasonable suspicion that LAM was involved in criminal activity. A consent search was conducted of LAM’s vehicle which yielded $36,460.00 in United States currency. The currency was packaged and concealed in denominations consistent with criminal activity. Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputy Mullen and K-9 Frankie responded and conducted a narcotics sweep of LAM’s property. K-9 Frankie did positively alert/indicate to the presence of narcotic odor on LAM’s property.

LAM was subsequently arrested for NYS PL 470.05 – Money Laundering in the Fourth Degree, VTL 1180(D) – Speed in Zone and VTL 1120(A) – Failed to Keep Right. LAM was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Perry Court at a later date.
