An engaging talk on forests + climate.
Always worth making space for these conversations.
Architecture designed for life on the mountain.
Set along the slopes of Aspen Highlands in Aspen, Colorado, Wedge House was designed by Architects to engage the mountain directly. The home’s siting and form are shaped around ski-in/ski-out access and expansive views across the alpine valley, allowing residents to step onto the slopes in the morning and return home just as easily at day’s end.
Clad in Douglas fir with steel and glass accents, the wedge-shaped form opens toward the mountains, framing forests and ridgelines through expansive windows while creating sheltered spaces for gathering after a day outside.

In “Housing U.S.A.,” a feature in the January/February issue of exploring housing realities across America, writer Anjulie Rao () sat down with CCY Partner Maura Trumble to unpack the complexities for workforce housing in Mountain West communities.
Through a conversation about VooDoo Lounge — a town-led, 27-unit mixed-use housing development in Telluride — Trumble explains the care and coordination required to responsibly deploy this housing typology at the heart of the historic mountain town.
Rao writes, “Named after the artists studios that once inhabited the site, VooDoo avoids the extruded box typical of multifamily developments. Instead, the designers prioritized adhering to the neighborhoods existing low-rise character by spreading units across three floors...CCY employed repetitive roof gables as a nod to surrounding historic buildings.”
With over five decades practicing across the Mountain West, CCY brings regional expertise informed by a global design perspective to deliver thoughtful solutions to the complex realities of housing in resort communities.

Set on six acres, the house threads evergreen, scrub oak and aspen into a quiet, contemporary plan. Weathered steel, concrete and oak ground the architecture; a low, winged roof and careful solar strategy bring light where it matters. The low, winged roof and a careful solar strategy bring balanced light into living and gallery spaces; the plan was composed to showcase the owners’ collection. Stewardship is explicit: a firewise buffer, native planting, and a gravity-fed stormwater system reduce impact and support the site’s ecology.
Thanks to Linda Hayes for the thoughtful coverage.

Congratulations to The Little Nell!
As Aspen’s only ski-in/ski-out hotel at the base of Aspen Mountain, it holds a rare position — both physically and culturally. It meets the mountain, the street, and the rhythm of town life all at once.
CCY Architects is proud to have been part of shaping a place that is more than a hotel. Retail and hospitality spaces are organized along the perimeter, reinforcing the vitality of the pedestrian experience and strengthening the connection between the city center and the slopes.
Over time, The Little Nell has become something larger than its footprint. It is a gathering place. A threshold. The front porch of Aspen.
The Little Nell marks 30 years as Aspen’s only Forbes Five-Star hotel, continuing its legacy of luxury and connection to the town’s history. LINK IN COMMENTS👇

CCY is a proud supporter of and excited to help bring their new Town Center home to life. Through the adaptive reuse of a former restaurant, this 7,700-square-foot arts center reclaims a long-vacant space as a dynamic community hub for creativity and culture.

Aspen X Games is back at Buttermilk this weekend—25 straight years of elite athletes and high-intensity snow sports on a global stage!
At CCY, mountain life isn’t a backdrop; it’s daily practice. From dawn ski laps to after-work rides in the Roaring Fork Valley, that lived experience shaped our work at Buttermilk Base with Aspen Snowmass
In collaboration with DESIGN WORKSHOP, the overall project's masterplan included three buildings that were designed to create a campus and to support and enhance the guest experience from arrival to departure.
Each building opens to light, views, and the natural flow of the mountain, supporting everything from first-time skiers to world-class events. A high-performance approach drives energy-efficient operations across the campus, setting the foundation for future net-zero use.

We are pleased to share that our Victorian Music Box project has been featured in Denver Life Magazine
Writer Andy Stonehouse thoughtfully describes the unique facade of the contemporary addition, which is appended to an existing 1880's Victorian home in Aspen's historic East End.
Stonehouse writes:
"Perhaps the structure’s most beguiling feature is a facade meant to evoke Chopin’s 'Nocturne in E-flat Major, Op. 9, No. 2,' one of the owners’ favorite pieces...The CCY team’s ingenious solution incorporates a series of small, varied perforations, grouped together in the aluminum siding, abstractly corresponding to the key and length of each note, like a player piano’s musical score." https://www.denverlifemagazine.com/where-music-shapes-architecture-in-an-aspen-hideaway/
