Tomorrow is the students first day back and the QRSD School Nutrition team has been busy preparing to reopen the schools. Last week, they received training on Civil Rights, CEP vs NON-CEP, what makes a reimbursable meal (breakfast and lunch), new sodium target 1A regulations, PreK meal requirements, production records, knife safety and so much more.

FAQ

When will the School Nutrition parent guide be available?
We will email the guide by August 28, 2023. The guide will include your child's student ID number, lunch pin number and other School Nutrition Information. The email is from [email protected] and not a qrsd.org email address. Please check your spam folder.

Menus
Breakfast and Lunch Menus will be available online on August 28, 2023. We are still experiencing food and supply chain shortages. Menus are subject to change without notice.

Meal Benefit Applications for School Year 2023-2024
The Meal benefit applications for this school year will be available soon. You only need to apply once per household, unless you received a directly certificated letter via email. The directly certified letters will be emailed by August 28, 2023.

Will free meals or universal free meals continue in Massachusetts?
We are waiting for Governor Healey to approve the state budget.

Summer P-EBT FAQ?
Although the state made meals available at no cost for last school year (2022-2023), students would still need to qualify for the free benefits to receive Summer P-EBT. You could have qualified during the 2022-2023 school year by income using the meal benefit application, from being directly certified via the state gateway program (example: qualifying for SNAP) or if enrolled at a CEP school. Hardwick Elementary School was the only CEP school in QRSD for school year 2022-2023.

It was and is extremely important to complete a meal benefit application every school year unless you receive a directly certified letter via email.

Summer P-EBT
Quabbin Regional School District recently submitted the required information to the state. You should receive payment when the state issues the next round of payments. This will be issued in September.

The Middle/High School Nutrition team decided to be productive by thinking inside of the box.

Today we had Chef Patty from the John Stalker Institute’s CRISP program in Quabbin’s kitchen. The students were able to taste test Chicken Shawarma &
Tabbouleh.
We will offer a Mediterranean themed meal which will include Chicken Shawarma, Tabbouleh, Baba Ganoush, Mujaddara and Melon Mint Salad on Friday 6/9 at the International Cuisine line.

Join me as we redefine school meals and turn the ordinary cafeteria experience into an ordinary one, paving the way for healthier and happy kids!

Tomorrow is school lunch hero day!! I want to give a huge shout out to the QRSD School Nutrition staff! Between adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating supply chain shortages, staffing shortages and more, they have a lot on their plate. Every day they do the most important thing… feeding the kids! I am thankful every day that I have one of the most outstanding teams!
