Yesterday Walk with History went somewhere that filled this Naval Aviator Heart!
Avenger Field in Sweetwater Texas was leased by the Army Air Forces in 1942 and became the largest all-female air base in U.S. history, training women to fly military aircraft. Today, it operates as a general aviation airport and is home to the National WASP WWII Museum, preserving the legacy of these pioneering female pilots. I got to sit in the PT-17 and the T-6. It was truly an amazing experience! They need more visitors, so if you ever find yourself in the heart of Texas it is worth the stop.
