Initial interests were arthropods. But here we have adapted a more pictorial focus on all wildlife. Hope you enjoy. My Publications:

Landes, D.A., J. H. A., and J.

This page initially focused on the knowledge and preservation of arthropod habitats and populations. But now we have included other areas of interest within the realm of the natural sciences (here a more generalized pictorial approach). Many items are presented with a flavor for taxonomy and evolution, while others are more ecological in scope. Hunt, and Alan B. Cady. 1995. Spider survey from a so

On the water.
The White-faced Whistling Duck is shown near wetland habitat, where it typically feeds and rests. Its whistling call is often heard as groups move between feeding areas.

I've been spending a lot of time at sea recently, so thought I would share a few images from our pelagic trips this week...

Here's a Brown (or Subantarctic) Skua (Stercorarius antarcticus) heading off with a tasty morsel... of the 7 species of Skua in the world, this is the heaviest of the lot and rivals some of the largest gulls in the world on weight as well.

Moving carefully through the forests of Madagascar, the female Crowned Lemur carries her infant close to her chest. Gray fur with a warm orange-brown face and a long tail helps her blend into the canopy, while the baby clings tightly for protection. Dry forests and woodland habitats provide both shelter and resources essential for raising young.

Fruits are the main component of their diet, supplemented by leaves, flowers, and occasional insects. Mothers guide and protect their young, teaching them how to move, forage, and avoid predators. Social grooming and close contact strengthen bonds within family groups.

Classified as endangered due to habitat loss and fragmentation, Crowned Lemurs depend on stable forests for survival. The presence of infants highlights the importance of conservation, as healthy populations require both adults and successfully raised offspring.

Monarda bradburiana is one of my favorite North American mints. This species is native to central and southeastern North America and enjoys somewhat shaded woodlands. Bumblebees absolutely love these flowers 🐝
