Three years ago, we saw a young woman at the top of her game step down from the world’s largest sporting event leaving many to wonder why. Later she would open up to the world saying that she had to step away to protect her mental health and well-being. She did what so many are afraid to do and she advocated for her mental health and took a stand against stigma to ensure that she protected herself in the long term. Fast forward to three years later and another Olympic games and she brought home the gold in both team and all-around artistic gymnastics. In the past three years she has been open about her battles, her successes, her therapy and all the ways she actively works to maintain her mental health and well-being. Take a stand to end the stigma and prioritize your own mental health!
Summer should be a time of rest, relaxation and reset, however, that doesn’t always go as planned. SAIL would like to share some summer self-care ideas for you and your loved ones to enjoy.
1. Unplug. We spend so much time with our phone in hand, working, scrolling. Take some time to unplug and focus on you or your family
2. Adventure Awaits. Spend some time exploring something new! Remember you don’t have to go far…adventure can be what you make it.
3. Favorite Things. Do something you love! Go to the beach, sit in the grass and read, whatever it is, do it for you.
4. Hydrate. The summer months can be a lot of go, go, go! Make sure you drink lots of water.
5. Rest. Yes, the weather is nice and summer vacation can fly by, but you don’t have to do something every day. Sometimes it’s nice to enjoy a quiet day at home.
Wishing all a very happy and safe Independence Day

In 1949 May was established as Mental Health Awareness Month in order to bring light to the many individuals who experience mental illness. It allows individuals to share their stories, express their needs and have the voices heard. It brings attention to the importance of ending stigma and increasing supports and resources. To all those individuals who have shared their mental health journey with us and others, SAIL says thank you for letting us be a part of it. To those who are working and fighting to bring awareness and end the stigma we also want to say thank you.

Earlier this week SAIL sent a group of individuals from different departments to go up to Albany to participate in Legislative Day. This is a day where agencies like SAIL come together to speak with different members of congress to educate and advocate for the need for funding, increased services and supports, and the need for more focus on mental health. This year we heard a lot of positive feedback for the increase in these areas and a big push for mental health services. Together we are hoping to end the stigma!
SAIL would like to wish everyone a very happy and safe New Year. May 2024 be the year that you prioritize yourself, that you are kinder to yourself and that you realize what you are capable of.
While the holidays can be full of fun and excitement, they can also come with stress and anxiety. Be sure that you are taking care of yourselves during this time and doing what you need to do to avoid holiday stress.
SAIL wishes everyone a very happy, healthily and prosperous holiday season.
Last week members from all departments of SAIL attended the annual ACLAIMH Conference. Together agencies from all over the state learn of new resources available, increased opportunities for staff and the people we serve as well as ways to advocate for those needs. It is a wonderful opportunity in which we look forward to bringing back everything that was learned to the rest of the agency to enhance the care and services we provide.
World Mental Health Day was created in 1992 so that individuals all around the world can acknowledge the importance of mental health awareness, education and advocacy.

Today we honor and remember all those who tragically lost their lives on September 11th, 2001 and the families that were forever changed. We remember those men and women who courageously came into action this day as they bravely sacrificed or put their own lives in danger.
12.3 million individuals have seriously thought about su***de, 3.5 million individuals have developed a plan for su***de and 1.7 million individuals have attempted su***de. SAIL wants to remind everyone if you or someone you know is going having these feelings or in crisis there are so many who want to help you and want you to stay. Tomorrow needs you!
SAIL wishes everyone a safe and happy Labor Day.
It is easy to put unrealistic expectations on ourselves. As summer is winding down remember that it is okay to have days that are less productive, days that we feel as though we are only able to get by. Extra kindness and self-care will be extra important on these days. Tomorrow will start a new day and opportunity. So, remember…Your best may look different from day to day!

1 in 5 adults living in America experience mental illness. SAIL would like to take a moment to honor and acknowldge those who have a story to tell about their journey with mental health. To our clients, their families and all those involved in their journey. Thank you for fighting to end the stigma, raising awareness and advocating. We are honored to be apart of your story and will continue to fight for all of those who are still trying to start or navigate their journey.
