We have wrapped up our successful week of Vacation Bible School at Bagdad Methodist Church!
Our theme for this week was “We Are in God’s Army”.
We had about 22 Little Soldiers show up for Basic Training with 15 brave Drill Sergeants and about 4 Mess Hall Captains.
Each day was filled with Bible study, prayer time, outdoor activities, crafts, and a hot lunch.
The children learned some very basic bible stories to teach them about Jesus and His love for us.

To enhance their Bible story about “Fishers of Men”, (in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 4), the children participated in a mini version of a fishing clinic facilitated by Sgt. Ed (assisted by Sgt. Howard and Sgt. Shawn.)

Each of the children received a new fishing pole with a mini tackle box!

We concluded our training with a bouncy house, pizza and ice cream!
Thank you to all our brave VBS soldiers and to our Director of VBS this year, Lt. Pam.

Can't wait for next year!

A Note From Our Pastor...

Recently I shared a message regarding the power of our speech. Our words matter. As I stated in this message, our words can lift others or limit others. We can build up or tear down with our words.

Something I took note of that day was several folks stated the message was needed. Many needed the reminder. Don’t we all? Some mentioned how God was using the message to confirm something He had already dropped in their spirit. God is good! I’m a huge fan of a confirming word.

Our words speak of who we are and what is the wellspring from which we speak. Our words come from our core. Do we speak goodness and grace? Do we speak negatively? Do we speak love and hope? Do we speak ill and despair? Think about for a moment. In our daily conversations are they filled with words of joy and encouragement and faith or are they filled with doubt, fear, and frustration?

Our words testify to who we are and what fills our hearts, minds, and spirits.

I invite you to read: proverbs 18:21. Luke 6:45. Proverbs 4:23. Matthew 5:13.

Church, may we focus on Jesus. May we be diligent about reading His word and allowing His word to settle in our hearts, our minds, and our spirits so that when we speak we reflect Christ. In so doing, we speak life, joy, peace, goodness, and love. May we be lifters and not limiters. May we be the salt of the earth and not salty in our comments and conversations.

Let us pray—
Father God, we come before You this day asking You to fill us with more of You as we read Your word and seek You and grow in You may that be evident in all we say and do. May we be true witnesses of Your goodness and grace. May we speak life into every conversation. In al things Lord, may we honor You. Be glorified we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen

Grace & Peace,
Pastor Kim

A Note From Our Pastor...

Greetings Church!

This month we celebrate Father’s Day. It’s a day to recognize all the men who have loved us, provided for us, taught us, trained us, and encouraged us through this life.

So many men have fed into my life through the years and I am truly thankful for each one. I always take the time on Father’s Day to truly acknowledge with a thankful heart all of the men who have impacted my life. These men have been used by God to bless my life and I celebrate each one: Steve Webb, Hugh Allen, William Peppenhorst,Leighton Allen, Daniel Webb, Jim Mattison, Tom Jackson, Ralph Cargile, Pep Peppenhorst, Jeffrey Webb, Steven Webb, Mat Taylor and Will Taylor. These men have taught me so very much about loving others, supporting others, praying for others, caring for others and seeking God. I truly celebrate each one. I am truly thankful for all that they have done to support me in this life.

I celebrate that each of these were selfless, caring, encouraging, and loving towards me. We all need encouragement. We all need love. We all need support. We all need prayer. And regardless of age, we all still need instruction and help.

I pray that we take the time over the next few days to celebrate the men in our lives that have formed us and shaped us. I pray that we reach out to them and let them know the impact they have made on our lives. If, like me, many on your list are in heaven, take the time to thank God for them.

I invite us to read 1 Chronicles 29:7, Joshua 1:9 & 24:15, Proverbs 3:1-12 & 10:9.

I celebrate each man of God.I encourage us to take notice of the people in our lives and continue to encourage, teach, train, help, support and pray for them. God has you in the midst for a reason. Take advantage of the opportunity to impact a life—maybe many.

Peace & Grace!
Pastor Kim

The Little White Church

Our History

The United Methodist Church in the historic village of Bagdad, Florida, did not "just happen!" Though local worshipers were included in the initial Methodist begun in Pensacola in 1821, members were unable to establish an active congregation in Bagdad, known then as Blackwater, until 1830. With a moss covered brush arbor for his sanctuary, Dr. John Wesley Talley, a former missionary to the Choctaws, delivered his sermons beside the Blackwater River. He baptized the converts within sight and sound of the waterfront church and happily accepted a salary of thirteen dollars for his first year's work.

In 1837, a small wooden building was erected near the site and served as a house of worship until it was destroyed by fire in the early 1880s. Members of the congregation then worshiped with the local Presbyterians and prayed for God's guidance as they planned for the future.

The present sanctuary was begun in 1885 on the site given for that purpose. The first worship service was held in the unfinished building in September of that year when seventy members and their families joined together for a great day of Thanksgiving.
