How Bones Communicate With the Rest of the Body

"But what’s clear already is that the skeleton is not just a nice set of mechanical supports. Bones constantly remodel themselves in response to the body’s needs, and they’re in constant communication with other parts of the body. Bone is a busy tissue with broad influence, and it’s working behind the scenes during the most basic daily activities."

‘Slowing Down to Feel’: Moving Our Minds Around Our Bodies

Another great article in the New York Times on the Feldenkrais Method!

I absolutely agree.

**UPDATE, great news! New online class offering!

Ballet Austin admirably reorganized to continue serving our community!! My Awareness Through Movement® class will be offered back at its old slot on Fridays from 12-1pm, meeting virtually live on Zoom. We start next week, May 1st!

Please read about the virtual class and sign up: https://balletaustin.org/dance-fitness/online-classes -df-live-streaming

If you are unfamiliar with Zoom, please give yourself some time to sign in early to get yourself situated. Thank you and see you on the floor!

Movement & Emotions - Feldenkrais Method

"I believe that one of the main causes of this change is the delicious Feldenkrais quality of moving without an external ideal of a perfect posture, without right or wrong, and with the invitation to find a sense of elegance and ease through my own sensation. All of this combined with re-exploring some of the most basic forms of functional movement created an opportunity for me to adjust my own organization without force and with a compassionate softness that reverberated throughout the rest of my life."

Somatic Movement Education Training 08/19/2019

Somatic Movement Education Training

Feldenkrais is under this genre of movement science, somatics. It includes the benefits in which one can learn movement that rehabilitative, self-caring, educational, neuromuscular re-patterning, preventative, and much more. I'm a poster child of transformation through Feldenkrais and other somatic modalities and live with this mind-body set every single day.

If you are looking to going deeper as a therapist, practitioner, or mover to help yourself and others in a way such that the enrichment of the subtle body can make the living body more embodied, whole, and intelligent, I'd highly recommend joining this program.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must hold any degree (AA or above) or 3 years professional experience in the following: Dance, Kinesiology, Yoga Therapist, Physical Education, Psychiatry, Psychology, Medicine, Nursing, Social Work, Physical Therapy, Massage Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Health, Exercise, or Fitness.

You don’t need more exercise, you just need to move 06/20/2019

You don’t need more exercise, you just need to move

"It’s about reexamining your entire life and environment to be more active overall. The key is to stack more movement on top of things you are already doing." -Molly Rubin

From a Feldenkrais perspective, I'm constantly varying the way I do things in order to keep my nervous system learning. How often are you sensing "the how" of your movement in everyday life? There are endless ways of how you approach and do anything.

You don’t need more exercise, you just need to move Most of us live such a sedentary life it is affecting our health and wellness—and running is not the solution.

Feldenkrais can change the way you feel just by showing you how you move

“We have to get interested in the problem, collect sensory cues. We can’t just tell ourselves what to do; there are all sorts of right ways to move, depending on whether we’re trying to pick something up or look at the stars. We have to fully experience all the options in order for our brain to pick what we need when we need it."

Why Feldenkrais? - Embodiment Matters

"What a blessing to discover there’s an intelligence in every cell in your body which reveals itself when we simply slow down and pay attention to it and through it." -Erin Geesaman Rabke, GFCP

Why Feldenkrais? - Embodiment Matters A note from Erin: Is it worth taking the time to slow down and learn from what poet Hafiz calls “the most insignificant movements of your own holy body?” I believe it is. I have a lot to say about why this work is important. For starters, here are seven perspectives in answer to the question: Wh...

Private Sessions/Classes

Received another humbling testimonial... Come check out Feldenkrais! More info on class and private sessions in the link below. Lisa Hueske

"Fortunate am I (& my husband & other members of the community) that Lisa is available to make our bodies available and accessible to us. Her years of experience, study, exploration, her lively intelligence, love, beauty, and curiosity, are shared generously, gently, and thoughtfully with ANYONE who approaches her for Awareness Through Movement lessons OR Functional Integration one-on-one work. I have spent my long life responding to what works, what is effective, starting w/farming, ranching, agriculture and now working in the conflict resolution field. I laugh and realize that Feldenkrais' genius is resolving unnatural, uncomfortable conflict in our bodies in order to function on all levels integrated with ease. After hard physical labor, close to professional squash playing, several auto accidents and surviving violent crime, I was in so much physical pain that m.d.'s counseled to declare myself handicapped and numb out w/prescription drugs (medicate/give up). Thanks to affordable access to Awareness Through Movement, Feldenkrais and Lisa's lessons, encouragement and guidance though for years I have a high quality of daily life, hope, and happiness. (Once I spent at least a year practicing & comparing it for results/"effectiveness" with qi gong, yoga, and tai chi; Feldenkrais LITERALLY scored "head and shoulders" above the other modalities in immediate, noticeable effectiveness). One of the best things is that it has an "infinite improvement" aspect. Bless Lisa Hueske and a handful of dedicated Feldenkrais practitioners who make this complete, highly original, complex but simple, direct work accessible to those who suffer, but yearn for health."

Happy New Year!! What a wonderful way to start the year by receiving this testimonial. I'm so humbled.

“Lisa is an extraordinarily gifted Feldenkrais teacher and bodyworker. Deep sensitivity and attunement are, to me, two of the gifts she has been given to share. She is also a very caring human being. When Lisa is working on my body I experience her listening from her depths and navigating my system in the way it responds best. I’ve seen her for various issues and always find that my body responds really well to how she works. I also attend Lisa’s group classes and they are one of my most cherished moments of the week. It’s like meditation in movement and has been teaching me how I obstruct the natural movement and ease of my body.”

A different way to relieve years of back pain

More great exposure for Feldenkrais on The Washington Post!

"Babies, it turns out, don’t tighten their sternums or their backs, or hold their heads in front of their necks as stressed-out adults do. Feldenkrais tries to get us back to the conditions that babies experience when they learn to move. They haven’t yet stretched or learned to strain. I’ve spent entire classes lying on the floor holding my big toe, gently lifting my head and my foot to rewire the primal movements that have gone askew."

"Ease of squatting is also linked to a reduced likelihood of falls – something key for martial artists who want to improve in their discipline and older adults who want to lengthen their lives alike.
