Book Arts Kits for AISD Elementary and Middle School Art teachers delivered to Paul Kretchmer, and then a demonstration on Zoom for the Art teachers was completed. Paul will get the kits to the teachers. How did this happen? It takes a village, and some of them are not on FB. The kits were inspired by folks like Esther K Smith and Susan K. Ga***rd and the design was refined by retired teachers, Linda Anderson, Beatrice Baldwin, and an education professor who teaches at Texas State, Jesse Gainer. The kits were made by volunteers including some of the above, Rebecca Switzer, and Mary Baughman. The whole project would not have been possible without AISD's Paul Kretchmer, and support from the folks who donated to Amplify Austin last March. Amanda Stevenson, the Executive Director of ABAC made that fundraising campaign successful and helped in other ways. ABAC Board members like Mark Smith beat the bushes to raise the full amount needed in order to complete the videos; the Tocker Foundation invested. Mark Hall and Xander Clark completed the Spanish/English videos of Marga Sylvestre and Linda Anderson demonstrating kit construction. Videos are free to access on the ABAC website. The services of Amy Kent as translator, and graphic designer Claire Ellis were also needed. Mike's Print shop made the bilingual instructions look great. Mary Baughman coordinated everyone's efforts for the project, but she was helped, reminded, prodded, and praised by all of these folks. Mary hopes that she did not forget to mention anyone else who also helped. This is a very useful series of kits; We at ABAC hope they benefit teachers and students. One of many other book arts centers around the USA, Austin Book Arts Center exists to serve the people of Austin and students in ABAC zoom workshops. ABAC welcomes volunteers and donations. Wouldn't it be great if ABAC occupied a permanent studio? Please explore the website. https://atxbookarts.org
