##ThankfulThursday Heyyyy Dental Fam, it's Brittany again. This Thanksgiving, I am most looking forward to my two all time favorite side dishes: green bean casserole and my Momma's cornbread casserole! It is to die for. I am most thankful for not only my family, pups, and partner, but also my dental family here at Perspective Dental. Being somewhere as much as you are home, it is vital to love what you do but also who you do it along side with!

Dinosaurs grew new teeth when one was lost or broken
Hi dental fam! As Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, I am the most excited about diving into some green bean casserole and traditional stuffing (or as the south refers to it as dressing :) This year I am thankful to be able to spend time with my family and friends and being blessed with a beautiful new home!
Myth Vs. Truth

My child’s first dental visit should be
between the ages of 3-4 years.

Fact: Your child should visit the dentist for the first time
after his or her first tooth comes in, usually between 6
and 12 months.
The most important reason to begin early is that dental
problems can begin early. One big concern is Early
Childhood Caries (formerly known as baby bottle tooth
decay or nursing caries). Once a child’s diet includes
anything besides breast-fed milk, erupted teeth are at
risk for decay. The earlier the dental visit, the better the
chance of preventing dental problems
Why Brush Your Tongue?
Did you know your mouth is one of the best homes for bacteria to grow?! There are billions of bacteria living in you mouth as we speak! While some of the bacteria is beneficial, there are also a lot of bad bacteria. The bacteria can wear down the protective enamel on the outside of your teeth and cause gum disease and cavities!
Brushing your tongue can improve your breath, taste and overall dental health!
What Causes Dry Mouth?
- Dehydration
- Sjogren's Syndrome
- Medications
- Cancer Therapy
- Salivary Duct Obstructions
- Disease Conditions: Diabetes, Parkinson's Disease, HIV/AIDS
How Do You Prevent Dry Mouth?
- Drink plenty of water
- Chew Sugarless gum if you take medications or suffer from illnesses that can cause dry mouth
- Avoid smoking and alcohol intake

Why Dental Offices Take Your Blood Pressure At Every Appointment:

There are many reasons why the dentist/assistant may need to check your blood pressure at your appointment. This can range from establishing your baseline to alerts in hypertension to measuring your anxiety levels. Your blood pressure is key to understanding your overall health at the time of your appointment.

This is especially important, since many Americans see their dentist more often than their physician at every 6-month cleaning. It is a crucial health check and an opportunity to understand the changes in your overall health!

We at Perspective are always looking for the new way to enhance your oral health. Through great researched and personal testimonies from multiple staff members, we have become HUGE fans of CoCoFloss. Of course, if this is not the brand that best suits you, flossing with whatever brand you prefer is encouraged!
TYPICAL FLOSS GLIDES OVER PLAQUE. COCOFLOSS CAPTURES IT.
Most floss is too smooth and flat to effectively remove plaque — the sticky, yellow biofilm that covers our teeth. It’s like trying to clean crusty dishes with a plastic bag. Slick floss slides right over the stinky stuff, allowing cavity-causing bacteria to multiply.

If left unchecked, the amount of bad bacteria in your mouth can become overwhelming, resulting in irritated, swollen gums, and eventually gum recession, tooth decay, and even tooth loss.

SUPER-CLEANSING COCOFLOSS IS THE GENTLE LOOFAH FOR YOUR SMILE.
Cocofloss is different. It’s made with more than 500 interwoven filaments, giving it a maximal surface area to sn**ch plaque and debris from between your teeth and gums. Like an exfoliating loofah, our textured floss massages gums and makes teeth sparkle.

Most commonly, people assume cavities to form on the chewing surfaces of the teeth most often. Yes, often times the chewing surfaces of the teeth are influenced with eating, staining and other things contributions to decay; but what about the cavities in between the teeth?

These cavities in between the teeth would be assumed to be caused from lack of flossing, and although this could be a contributing factor, patients with exceptional hygiene habits can still form these in between the teeth cavities.

How???
One word: Drinks

Consuming things on a daily basis that are not combined with regular water form an acidic reaction in your mouth that last for hours breaking down enamel and older restorations.
Do you drink coffee, tea, sparkling water, flavored water, seltzers?

All of these in the recent years have sky rocketed in popularity and have given us the presumption that because flavored waters and sparkling waters are a type of water... that they are the new replacement for regular water.

NO ONE is saying to stop drinking these all together!

Its not all about WHAT you consume, but HOW you consume it.

When drinking anything other than water, drink it in one sitting (not over multiple hours) and follow that drink immediately with regular water to stop the acidic process.

We are here to help you NOT get future cavities, not just fill the current!
