Are you bothered by itching and flaking in your scalp? You’re not alone. Dandruff (seborrheic dermatitis) is a very common inflammatory condition that can involve not only the scalp, but oily areas of the face and chest as well. Flareups are common during times of stress and weather changes. If nonprescription dandruff shampoos aren’t controlling your symptoms, there are prescription products that can help. See one of our board certified dermatologists to help find a solution. Book an appointment for either location at https://faradydermatology.com/contact-us/

This may seem silly, but there are folks out there that do not know the proper way to wash your face, so we are here to help.
1. Use a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser that does not contain alcohol.
2. Wet your face with warm water and use your fingertips to apply a cleanser. Resist the temptation to scrub your skin and irritating it.
3. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft towel.
4. Apply moisturizer if your skin is dry or itchy. Be gentle when applying any cream around your eyes so you do not pull too hard on this delicate skin.
5. Wash your face once in the morning and once at night, as well as after sweating heavily. Perspiration, especially when wearing a hat or helmet, irritates the skin. Wash your skin as soon as possible after sweating.

When selecting sunscreen for you and your family here are a few things to look out for.
Broad-Spectrum: this means that you are protected from both UVA rays and UVB rays.
SPF: You should always aim to get sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.
Water resistance: buying sunscreen with water resistance means you can sweat, or swim and the sunscreen will stay on your body. It will last 40 to 80 minutes before reapplying is needed.

You may have had surprise hives before and wondered, “what the heck are these?!”
Hives are a skin reaction that causes bumps, raised patches, or both to suddenly appear on the skin. The bumps and raised patches are often itchy and may look swollen. There are a few things that can cause hives, the most common being- an allergic reaction, overreaction to heat, sweat, cold, stress, sunlight, or pressure on the skin (tight clothing, light touch of a purse strap, or scratching). Our board-certified dermatologists can diagnose and treat your hives.

We are a month into the new year, which means we are a month into fulfilling our new goals. If your goal was to work out, and run more, make sure you are doing what you can to not get athletes foot.
Athletes foot can be due to one factor or a combination of factors. Athlete’s foot is more common in those who participate in sports because:
-They may wear occlusive footwear.
-They sweat heavily.
-They may fail to dry their feet carefully after showering.
-They are exposed to fungal spores on the surfaces of communal areas.
So make sure you are wearing proper shoes, stay dry, and wear shoes in communal areas.
Did you know that Botox isn't used just for wrinkles?
It can help hyperhidrosis by preventing the message from your nerves from getting to your sweat glands. If your glands don't get the message, then they will not sweat.
The ABCDEs are important signs of moles that could be cancerous. If a mole displays any of the signs listed below, have it checked immediately by one of our board-certified dermatologists:
-Asymmetry: If one half of your skin mole does not match the other half.
-Border: If the border or edges of your mole are ragged, blurred or irregular.
-Color: If the color of your mole is not the same throughout, or it has shades of multiple colors such as tan, brown, black, blue, white, or red.
-Diameter: If the diameter of your mole is larger than the eraser of a pencil.
-Elevation/Evolution: If your mole becomes raised after being flat, or it changes over a short period of time.
Happy Friday Eve! We hope that everyone is staying warm and enjoying this cold snap!
So, we just got a new space-age phone system. Yay! But I just realized my name (according to the day menu) is now Karen Faraday. 🤣🤣🤣. Please bear with us as we learn this new technology!
Have you ever found a skin tag and wondered, "What is this? How did I get this?"
Skin tags are very common soft harmless lesions that appear to hang off the skin. The exact cause of skin tags is unknown, but it is believed to be caused by skin rubbing together, insulin resistance, or from the human papillomavirus.
If you'd like yours removed, give us a call to see the best treatment option from one of our board-certified dermatologists.
*Skin tag removal is considered a cosmetic removal and is not covered by insurance.
