Arriving in Santiago is now a breeze with the new international airport terminal (T2) that has been in operation since March 2022 and is expected to be able to handle more than 30 million passengers per year - triple the previous capacity.
The former terminal now called Terminal T1 will operate domestic flights.
A particularly positive innovation is the baggage handling upon landing. Travelers' luggage is now checked by Customs and SAG through an automated and centralized system, reducing the waiting time from the previous 45 minutes to around 3 minutes!
A new reception point for international tourists was also opened in the new terminal. The "Welcome Point" cannot be overlooked with its large, seven-meter-high column with the word "Welcome" in several languages.

If you do one of the Amazon cruises in Ecuador, you can achieve that. They believe that working closely with local communities is a vitally important part of forest conservation. They support native communities there by providing them with an alternative source of income and working alongside them to protect endangered species through their Charapas Turtles and Pink River Dolphin conservation programs. Just by being their guests, visitors are helping to support local communities and to protect endangered species, since 25% of their income goes toward conservation projects and activities with native communities, and more than 50% of their crew are locals.
