One of our valued customers was kind enough to send us some pictures of their beautiful home decorated in part with items from Old Europe. In these pictures you can see the English green leather sofa, 19th c wedding cabinets, and the gorgeous vintage painting over the fireplace! Thanks for sharing Paul!

I didn't know he was that old!

Sigmaringen Castle, Sigmaringen, Germany 🏰 🇩🇪
Sigmaringen Castle was the princely castle and seat of government for the Princes of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Situated in the Swabian Alb region of Baden-Wurttemberg this castle dominates the skyline of the town of Sigmaringen.
The castle was rebuilt following a fire in 1893, and only the towers of the earlier medieval fortress remain. Schloss Sigmaringen was a family estate of the Swabian Hohenzollern family, a cadet branch of the Hohenzollern family, from which the German Emperors and kings of Prussia came. The castle and museums may be visited throughout the year, on guided tours.

This spectacular desk is a copy of probably the most celebrated piece of 18th-century French furniture, King Louis XV’s 'bureau du roi'. The piece cost the 4th Marquess of Hertford £3,000 in 1855, an enormous amount of money.
The original desk was started by Jean-François Oeben in 1760, and was finished by Jean-Henri Riesener nine years later, following Oeben’s death. It made Riesener’s reputation and secured his future as the royal cabinetmaker.
The piece was later used by Napoleon III and his wife, Empress Eugénie. The 4th Marquess of Hertford, a friend of the Imperial couple, obtained permission to have the desk copied. His copy is both a tribute to Riesener’s early masterpiece and a display of the cabinetmaking skills of the nineteenth-century copyists. Several copies of the desk were made later in the century, solidifying Riesener’s legacy, but none again reached the quality of Lord Hertford’s desk.

Barberini Palace, located in Rome, Italy
In 1623, Maffeo Barbeni, after being appointed Pope (Urban VIII), ordered the construction of a large palace to the architect Carlo Maderno, previously in charge of the construction of the facade of the Basilica of St. Peter. The works began in 1625 and were completed in 1633 by Bernini
Today, the Barberini Palace opens the National Gallery of Ancient Art, one of Italy's most important painting collections. The Gallery collection contains more than 1,400 works by great artists from the 13th to 18th centuries, among which stand out Tiziano, El Greco, Caravaggio, Tintoretto or Rafael, with their famous work “La Fornarina”.
Among the various lavishly decorated rooms, one of the palace's most appealing is the large central hall, which covers the entire height of the building. On the ceiling there is an incredible fresh from Peter da Cortona, one of the best works of Baroque illusionism.
On November 4, 1950, the European Convention on Human Rights (CEDH) was signed within the walls of the palace and created the European Court of Human Rights.

❤ This bed here is just gorgeous, the craftmanship of the carvings is phenomenal....but, what makes this bed even more special is....
Its possibly the bed that Vlad the Impaler may have slept in 😮
❤ The bed is at Bran Castle, Romania, and although its widely thought that Bran Castle was in the possession of Vlad, its quite possible he was only held prisoner there for two short months, using this very bed, and probably never actually owned the castle at all.
❤ Of course, this could all be just speculation, and he never even slept in it at all, but what a fabulous claim to fame, and what an exquisite bed! (not in inventory)

Elisabeth (born Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria; 24 December 1837 – 10 September 1898) was Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary by marriage to Emperor Franz Joseph I. She was born into the royal Bavarian House of Wittelsbach. Nicknamed Sisi (also Sissi),[1] she enjoyed an informal upbringing before marrying Emperor Franz Joseph I at the age of sixteen. The marriage thrust her into the much more formal Habsburg court life, for which she was unprepared and which she found uncongenial. Early in the marriage she was at odds with her mother-in-law, Archduchess Sophie, who took over the rearing of Elisabeth's daughters, one of whom, Sophie, died in infancy. The birth of the heir apparent, Crown Prince Rudolf, improved her standing at court, but her health suffered under the strain, and she would often visit Hungary for its more relaxed environment. She came to develop a deep kinship with Hungary, and helped to bring about the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary in 1867.
The death of her only son and his mistress Mary Vetsera in a murder–suicide at his hunting lodge at Mayerling in 1889 was a blow from which Elisabeth never recovered. She withdrew from court duties and travelled widely, unaccompanied by her family. In 1890, she had a palace built on the Greek Island of Corfu that she visited often. The palace, Achilleion, featuring an elaborate mythological motif, served as a refuge. She was obsessively concerned with maintaining her youthful figure and beauty, which were already legendary during her lifetime. In 1897, her sister, Duchess Sophie in Bavaria, died in an accidental fire at the Bazar de la Charité charity event in Paris. While travelling in Geneva in 1898, Elisabeth was mortally wounded by an Italian anarchist named Luigi Lucheni. Elisabeth was the longest serving Empress of Austria at 44 years.

Wisłoujście Fortress, Gdańsk, Poland 🏰 🇵🇱
The Wisłoujście Fortress is the oldest coastal fortress of the Polish seacoast. In the modern times, it is often called the Gate to the Republic of Poland. The impressive fortification protected ships on their way to the port of Gdańsk. It also played the function of a lighthouse, the berthing site of the Polish fleet, and a prison.
The branch is closed till 2024 due to restoration works.
Wisłoujście Fortress, taking its name from the Vistula River mouth where it is situated, is one of the most outstanding examples of military architecture in Poland, its spatial layout, technical and engineering solutions and location making it a site of truly exceptional value.
