We’re so lucky to have such an accomplished, dedicated team as our Board of Directors! Meet Chris Adams for this week’s #BoardSpotlight.

When asked why he is involved with HAAM, Chris explained that he and his wife Carol were good friends with a local musician named Tina Marsh, who was the founder and vocalist for the Creative Opportunity Orchestra. While Tina was battling breast cancer, he said HAAM helped her immensely. She passed away, but HAAM’s mission left a lasting impression on Chris, and he was delighted to join the board.

In his professional life, Chris has developed a well-rounded client base with a particular concentration in Austin’s emerging film industry. With over 30 years of experience in public accounting, he provides tax planning, tax compliance and business consulting services to various closely-held entities and their owners, including filmmakers, directors, producers, actors and film production companies. Chris also leads the firm’s family office practice that provides services to high net worth individuals specially designed to care for a family’s financial well-being. Before beginning his public accounting career, he held the position of Chief Accountant at St. Edward's University, Woodward Manufacturing Company and The Texas State Commission for the Blind.

In addition to his board position at HAAM, Chris also is a board member of the Austin Film Society, Hearts of Austin and an Advisory Council Member for St. Edward's University - The Bill Munday School of Business.

When asked what music or musicians influenced him most during his teen years, Chris explained that it was the music of the 60’s - The Beatles, Roy Orbison, Neil Diamond, The Rolling Stones, etc. His favorite Austin music venue is Antone's because of its rich history in Austin and the great bands that play there. A fun fact about Chris is that he attended a Janis Joplin concert at the University of Texas’ Gregory Gym when he was a student. How cool is that?

Thank you for your service and all that you do for the Austin community, Chris!

The Bill Munday School of Business prepares students to excel in a global world with a business education as unique as our home in Austin, Texas.

H. Wilburn Obituary - Austin, TX 08/25/2021

H. Wilburn Obituary - Austin, TX

Many of you may already know that beloved Professor, mentor and friend, Dr. H. Ralph Wilburn, has passed away. He was 85. Ralph devoted more than 20 years to the Hilltop family -- educating students' minds and shaping their hearts. Before joining the faculty at St. Edward's, Ralph served in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1984 as a Chief Master Sergeant with thirty years of service. He earned his master's degree in Human Resources Management from Pepperdine University before he finished his doctorate studies at UT-Austin.

At St. Edward's, Ralph's expertise and passion guided Hilltoppers in understanding the importance of connecting ethics and social responsibility with sound business practices. Throughout his work as a faculty member within the Bill Munday School of Business, he nurtured many friendships and mentorships with peers and students alike. Ralph worshiped faithfully at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel alongside his wife, Kathleen. Both are known to give wholeheartedly of their spirits and hearts to support the Catholic, Holy Cross tradition at St. Edward's University and with our partner organizations in Austin.

Together, Ralph and Kathleen have also given generously for many university priorities, including Campus Ministry, the Main Building Project, and the renovation of the Chapel. They also created a scholarship for business students, The Kathleen and Ralph Wilburn Endowed Scholarship.

To memorialize Ralph's love of St. Edward's University and its students -- along with his service to the U.S. military -- Kathleen has established The H. Ralph Wilburn Veterans Endowed Scholarship. Read more about Ralph's life and discover how to honor his legacy through his obituary. https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/austin-tx/h-wilburn-10321391

We are thrilled to welcome the next president of our university, Dr. Montserrat Fuentes! We're confident you'll lead us to even greater heights.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, St. Edward’s University is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Montserrat Fuentes as its next president. Fuentes, a native of Spain, will be the first Hispanic president to lead St. Edward’s, representing a significant milestone for the university.

After an extensive national search, the university’s Board of Trustees unanimously selected Fuentes because of her deep knowledge of higher education and her shared commitment to social justice and the Holy Cross mission of educating the heart and mind. Fuentes will assume the role on July 1, 2021, succeeding President George E. Martin, who is retiring in June 2021 after leading the university for 21 years.
