Yogapeutics--the whole of it-- is forever folded into the treasure trove of my heart. If your family has ever moved and played at Yogapeutics then you must know that you're tucked in there, too. At this particular moment, having a heart chock-full of people like you feels pretty paramount because, as you know, 2020 is really something! Perhaps this year is the one for which all of history's mindfulness lessons were made, and even with all my training, I'm still slogging my way through it.

Lucky for me, you keep showing up to nudge me out of my haze and shift perspective--like the other day when the monotony of laundry duties was punctuated by the delightful discovery of a tee-tiny Yogapeutics shirt and the sweet memory of how so many of you were *that* small when we first met. Or when a moment of worry was dispelled by a few glances at a photo album of y'all showing off your mind-blowing, funny and clever pose creations and I was assured that as long as the world has you in it, we're all gonna be okay. Then today, I was trudging around the house feeling completely uninspired until I stumbled upon a handwritten gratitude note that you composed for me "just-because", which reminded me how often you were actually *my* teacher and cheerleader instead of the other way around. As it turns out, the most meaningful lessons at Yogapeutics didn’t actually come from the teacher. They came from you and the opportunity to from witness your trust in me and growing connection to others. I learned the most from watching you approach your challenges with playful curiosity and wonder. I’m following your lead to find my way through this moment.

For all my love of the hammock, now that I think of it, it's never actually been the thing that picks me up off the floor, and hugs me close, so to speak. The hammock has always just been a bridge to better knowing and learning you. It’s a symbol for the feelings of delight, comfort and heightened perspective we all seek in life. I began this journey with the intention to help give you a physical, mental and emotional boost for the hard work of life, but I didn't expect that in doing so you’d dig a deep well of gratitude within me, which releases in great gushes to lift me up in all the ways, too.

Look! Yogapeutics trained teacher, OT and creative extraordinaire, Laurie Hebert, was featured in the current edition of Natural Awakenings for her therapeutic work with the hammock! The picture with Laurie and the little yogi captures "inverted lotus," a pose co-created by a student at Yogapeutics! Now, it's being taught to other kids and is featured in a magazine! What a joy! We’ve created a gratitude jar at Yogapeutics this month, and it became so full of paper with students’ gratitudes written on them that we decided to put some on the walls to make room in the jar for more. Everyday, I go into the studio and read these sweet gratitudes written by the students, parents, caregivers and the Yogapeutics team, and let me tell you—it fills my heart right up to the tippy top to see all these people recognizing what’s good in their lives, which brings me to you! Today, we hosted a blessingway for the multi- talented Tamara: our creative director, OT, play engineer and Yogapeutics extraordinaire, as she prepares for maternity leave. 👼🏻 She is so incredible, y'all. I'm seriously going to miss her brilliant presence at the studio, but it also delights me to be able to say "heck, YES," to offering the kind of super flexible, integrate-motherhood-and-career-at-a-comfy-pace work opportunity I always wanted for myself.

5 years ago, I began Yogapeutics in my dining room as an answer to needing more flexibility, playfulness and aligned purpose in my journey as a mother and therapist. I was away from my girls so much, and though I always had amazing bosses and wonderful jobs (really, I did), I couldn't exactly bring my kiddos to work when childcare fell through, and after taxes, I practically worked solely to pay childcare tuition. It was a grind, and I was an exhausted, cranky heap of a person at the end of each day. It's not the kind of modeling I had hoped to do as a parent, and not the kind of message about work I wanted to teach them.

Though I certainly still struggle with the juggle of motherhood and a career, I am constantly evolving a new way to merge the two at Yogapeutics. If you've been to our studio, you've probably seen my girls there with me (kinda sorta) working the front desk or peer assisting in class or just making a mess in the waiting room😏. It's a relief to be able to bring them along sometimes when I don't have or can't afford childcare. I love to have them learn work ethic and business skills by my side. Having my daughters witness the work I do (and see why I do it) and learn some life skills in the process is honestly one of my favorite elements of this work. Therefore, I am committed to making Yogapeutics a mama-friendly space that affords that opportunity to other women that want the same for themselves and their children. Yogapeutics allows women to earn and learn at a pace that feels most comfortable for each individual across a lifespan--which ebbs and flows along the journey.

I am a firm believer that when women are empowered to receive the work flexibility they need to support their physical/mental health and their families while simultaneously invoking a strong sense of purpose in their work, they will *always* rise to make a difference in the world and demonstrate high-quality work. So far, every single one of these pictured ladies (including the little girls☺️) have affirmed that belief for me!

Blessings to Tamara, who will be an amazing mama, and to her new babe, who will be a welcome new member-in-training of our sweet little tribe. After this week, Tamara will be doing some make-a-difference work for Yogapeutics from home because that's what she needs right now, but when she's ready, I sure do hope she'll be back in the studio (sometimes, with a babe in tow) because flexibility isn't just something I practice in yoga class! Teaching Kids About Boundaries | Child Mind Institute

This week in class we discussed boundaries in both yoga and in social environments! In yoga, boundaries help you to have a good understanding of what your body and mind needs to feel comfortable and safe! Outside of yoga, we try to be mindful of our own boundaries as well as the boundaries of others to have peaceful interactions with others!

This article provides some great examples of how you can help your child set boundaries for themselves as well as respect those of others. As kids mature socially they need to learn how to set and respect boundaries. Teaching them about empathy and self-awareness is a good place to start.

Join us for a 6 week holistic series taught by the amazing yoga therapist (and seasoned mama), Jess G. In this class, we will integrate the healing mental and physical benefits of yoga & mindfulness with current science of wellness and women's health.
This therapeutic, playful class is mostly floor yoga with the hammock used as a prop. It is an ideal class for moms of babies, kids, or teens! No experience of yoga is required.

Classes will be on Mondays from 8:30am-9:45am beginning 10/30-12/8 (with no class Thanksgiving week)
