Last Saturday, members of the Tarrant County Pharmacy Association volunteered their time at the Tarrant Area Food Bank in Fort Worth. Volunteers included TCPA members as well as students and faculty of the UNT HSC College of Pharmacy including Dean Evan Robinson.

The Texas Pharmacy Association Nominating Committee, chaired by Immediate Past President Jay Bueche, met yesterday to interview candidates for positions on the Association’s Board of Directors. The committee will release its 2025 slate of candidates soon for the positions of president-elect, treasurer-elect, two directors, and speaker-elect of the House of Delegates. State lawmakers want to 'rein in abusive practices of middlemen in pharmaceutical supply chain' – Rio Grande Guardian Senate Bill 1236, authored by state Sen. Bryan Hughes, is one of the Texas Pharmacy Association’s top priorities for the 89th Legislature.

Senate Bill 1236 by Senator Bryan Hughes has passed unanimously from the Senate Health and Human Services Committee and now moves on to the full Senate. Thank you to Sen. Hughes for supporting this critical legislation! Three TPA members testified last week in support of this bill to protect a from abusive audit practices, ensure compliance with existing PBM laws, and prohibit unilateral changes on key contractual provisions such as reimbursement rates during a contract term.

TPA Board Member Lauren Clark testified this afternoon in support of HB 2750 by Rep. Cody Harris. This legislation would ensure patient choice by prohibiting a health plan from requiring a patient to use its own vertically integrated PBM.
"The PBMs design networks to steer patients toward pharmacies they themselves own, cutting out local pharmacies—cutting us out. This practice has devastating consequences. In Texas, we are now seeing the closure of one pharmacy every single week," Clark said. "HB 2750 is about restoring balance, giving power back to patients, and preserving the heart of community health care in Texas."
