Film & Friends is a completely free & public quarterly showcase (sometimes more ✨) + ongoing screening series highlight all local work produced in Austin School of Film project-based courses.
✨This screening featured 15 films completed between October - December 2022 and had over 200 attendees come out!

Austin School of Film continues to be closed today 2/1 due to extreme weather conditions.
We will be available remotely for today from 10am - 4pm CST to answer any questions but please know there may be delayed responses due to electricity outages and limited staffing.
Any students scheduled for classes today and tomorrow have or are being notified of delays/rescheduling.
Weekend courses should not be affected at this point in time.

All classes for today and tomorrow are cancelled. We will reach out to students with official notification and all classes will schedule a makeup day to cover material.

The goal of our Intro to Super 8 course is to arm students with the knowledge to tech a Super 8 analog camera, teach them knowledge they can carry over to other types of analog cameras (like 16mm - a fully manual gem), read light, care & cleaning, different types of stock, shooting tips, and developing your own film.
Yes, we teach you how to develop your own motion picture film then transfer it to a digital film in class together. You’ll even learn the old school art of splice editing.
📍Here’s a little trailer featuring snippets of work produced in our December 2022 Intro to Super 8 workshop with 8 wonderful students from all over.
All analog courses are limited to 8-10 students (max) to ensure each student gets access to tools and lots of camera time. We’re now enrolling for early 2023 session with Spring sessions on the way. No prior film experience required, perfect for all levels! ✨

Initiated in 2003, No Idea Festival is an annual festival of improvised music based in Austin, Texas.
For their 2022 Austin installment, No Idea Fest is partnering with Austin School of Film, University of Texas, and City of Austin Cultural Arts Division to bring you an evening of experimental media on November 5 (this Saturday).
📍First up: Austin Workshop w/ Bani Khoshnoudi
In this workshop we will explore how to use ecological development through artisanal processes like caffenol or phytograming as alternative ways of developing film, and how these aesthetic choices bring another instance of writing directly onto the film emulsion.

This time, the event takes place at the beautiful and iconic grounds a Laguna Gloria on October 30 from 1-5pm.
Guests will be immersed into experiences that play on illusion, inspired by the spooky time of year and the park's many sculptures that seem to masquerade throughout the grounds.
📍 Austin School of Film is curating a bloody gore mess with two local Special FX MUA & . You can expect to see wild and fun horror-filled looks on two models being demoed in real time.
We’ll also have special effects make up out for guest to play and a couple of very unique prosthetics made by Adam Cahoon including an entire head!

Join us next Saturday, September 24 at 5pm for Love, From Death Row: A Day of Art and Film, a community film screening organized by community organizer, Delia Perez Meyer.
📍 This free and open to the public event will feature two films about the death penalty and the families that are affected by it. Delia is featured in one of the films “The Road to Livingston” where she fights for her brother on death row.
There will also be an exhibition featured of incredible artwork created by people currently on death row which is entitled "Love, From Death Row.”

We provide alternative ways to work, learn, create, and consume the arts in the digital era.
We do this by programs such as the Austin School of Film providing over 500 classes year round in art, film and creative technology and the Austin Cinemaker Space - Austin's only non-profit low-cost coworking makerspace.
