Hi, all! Pardon the silly image, but I wanted to be sure to get your attention! In the wake of That Takes the Cake Show announcing that it will not host a show in 2024, I’ve received a lot of questions about my cookie art competition, which was run there for two years. But, before I address those questions, I want to first express my sadness about the show taking a break. It’s a phenomenal event, which is why I chose it to be home of my cookie competition in the first place. However, I fully support their decision to take time to assess how to deliver the most value to show-goers in 2025, and I wish them every success in that endeavor.

As for my competition, YES, IT WILL CONTINUE IN 2024 in an online format, very similar to how it was run through the pandemic. I have received several friendly urgings to do another online competition this year, but since I concluded feedback for the 2023 competition as recently as May (!), I need a little break from competition-hosting. That being said, my current plan is to open registration (and announce rules/theme) for the next online competition in February or March 2024, about the time of this year’s competition, to give me a full year between events. By year end, I should have a firmer timetable to share with you, but rest assured that my competition will carry on! I am very excited about expanding it online and reaching even more cookiers across the globe.

If you have any questions about my competition, please don’t hesitate to ask in the comments below.

Dear Friends,

Today, we have more difficult news to share, and it breaks our hearts to inform you that we will not be hosting a cake show in 2024. The decision to postpone has been a tough one for all of us involved in the planning and ex*****on of the show.

We acknowledge that our 2023 comeback show did not meet the pre-pandemic level of success we had come to expect. Consequently, our club, attendees, and vendors were left disappointed. As a completely volunteer run, non-profit organization, we strive to execute our show to the standards that you are accustomed to. We took your feedback to heart, and in light of this, we believe it is crucial to take a step back and reassess our approach.

In the upcoming year we will thoroughly review our rules, guidelines, and overall approach to organizing the cake show. This comprehensive evaluation aims to identify areas of improvement and ensure that any future events align more closely with the expectations and aspirations of our wonderful community.

We are also going to use this opportunity to breathe new life into our online presence. Our website, which has been an essential platform for communication and updates, will undergo a revamp to enhance user experience and provide easier access to information.

Additionally, long-time patrons, Jennifer and Randy Bartos, owners of Make it Sweet, have shared the bittersweet news of closing their beloved store. Since its inception, Make it Sweet has been the cherished base for both our club and our cake show. The support and hospitality they have extended to us and our community have been immeasurable, and their decision to close the store marks the end of an era that we hold dear to our hearts.

While we understand that this news may come as a disappointment to many of you, we want to emphasize that our commitment to the sugar arts community remains steadfast. We are confident that this temporary hiatus will allow us to regroup, and come back stronger with a renewed and invigorated cake show experience in the future.

We express our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and understanding during this time of transition. We will keep you informed about our progress and any updates as we navigate this journey together. Please stay connected with us through our social media channels and website for the latest developments.

Thank you for being an integral part of our cake show community, and we look forward to creating more sweet memories together in the future.

With sincere regards,
Capital Confectioners Cake Club

Dear Members,

It is with a heavy heart and a profound sense of loss that we speak with you today. The time has come to bid farewell to a place that holds a special significance in all our hearts—the true Heart of the Club, Make It Sweet. This place has been more than just a venue for our meetings; it has been the nurturing ground for our dreams, the canvas for our creativity, and the glue that bound us together as a family.

Jennifer and Randy Bartos, the dedicated and passionate owners of Make It Sweet, have been an integral part of our club since its very inception. In fact, Jennifer was a founding member and helped organize the club. Their unwavering support and tireless dedication have transformed this space into a home away from home for us all. They have generously hosted workshops and classes that have enriched our skills and enhanced our love for the art we share. Their kindness extended even further, as they offered generous discounts to our members and selflessly donated countless invaluable resources over the years.

Jennifer's contributions to the That Takes the Cake Show as its Show Director for many years, and her current role as our Vendor Liaison, have been instrumental in making our events a resounding success. But it goes beyond just their official roles; Jennifer and Randy have been the steadfast champions of every aspect of our club—the members, the events, and the collective vision that binds us all.

It is nearly impossible to fathom the club without Make It Sweet, for Jennifer and Randy have invested not just their time, but their hearts and souls into this sacred place. Much that happened behind the scenes, happened at Make It Sweet. They worked tirelessly, with their efforts often going unnoticed, to make sure everything ran seamlessly, creating an environment of joy and belonging for all of us.

The impact they have made in our lives, in our art, and in the very fabric of our club, is immeasurable. Their warmth, guidance, and unwavering belief in us have given us the courage to explore, to create, and to grow together as artists and as individuals.

Saying goodbye to Make it Sweet marks the end of an era—a chapter that will forever be etched in the memories of each one of us. As we bid farewell, let us remember the laughter, the shared moments of triumph and challenges, and the unconditional support that they have bestowed upon us all.

Jennifer, Randy, we are so deeply sorry that this chapter of your lives has come to an end but we look forward to seeing where the next chapter leads you. Please know that the love, the memories, and the impact you have had on each one of us will endure through time. Your legacy will continue to inspire us as we move forward, embracing new beginnings and embracing change, while cherishing the foundation you laid for us.

As we navigate this transition, let us carry forward the spirit of Make It Sweet in our hearts. Let us continue to create, to share, and to support one another as a true family should.

Thank you, Jennifer and Randy, for everything you have done and everything you are. Make it Sweet will forever remain in our hearts.

With love and gratitude,

Capital Confectioners Cake Club
