131 years ago today, a contractor drilling for water in Corsicana accidentally struck oil instead and sparked the Texas oil industry.

That 1894 discovery became the first major oilfield in Texas, shaping the state's economy and culture in ways nobody saw coming.

On June 6, 1944, more than 156,000 Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in the largest seaborne invasion in history. Their courage turned the tide of World War II and secured freedom for millions. Today we honor their sacrifice.
