For those feeling "I'm too old to do this or that". My father's cousin is celebrating her 104th birthday. Maxine Walter Reed was born in 1917. She gave up driving four years ago, and still is sharp and going strong.
The President will soon know why we #giveadime about Parkinson’s. The authors of the book Ending Parkinson's Disease have organized a “red letter campaign” to send thousands of letters to the white house telling the President that the Parkinson’s community needs help. In 1938, President Franklin D. Roosevelt and millions of Americans led a march of dimes to end Polio. Today, we can do the same for Parkinson’s! They are hoping to get as many letters as possible sent to the white house and are asking for everyone’s help.

I'd be happy to drop off some letters so members of 413 can send them out. They are addressed and stamped. All they need is a short note that states why you give a damn about Parkinson's.

Congrats to my no. 1 fighter Tom for finishing a 40 mile ride benefiting the Alzheimer’s Foundation this weekend. Tom and his son were a top fundraiser. Tom was our first fighter to join 6 years ago, he’d tell you himself that is more fit 10+ years in than he was even prior to his Parkinson’s diagnosis. The best exercise for PD? The one you do.

Today’s GTKY (get to know Ya). What’s for breakfast? Lots of thought out there on diet and Parkinson’s - Keto vs Mediterranean, fasting or a breakfast of champions. Honestly you’ve got to listen to your body and ask do I fueled for my day (which should include exercise)? My go to breakfast lately is an açaí bowl, loaded with antioxidants and fiber (both are friends of your gut). My recipe will be in your June newsletter.

David has been fighting back at our Georgetown gym since the spring of 2019. “Dave works hard every day! “Silver Fox” when given time to go back & practice skills, he always chooses skills that are not easy for him. He is constantly working to fight the frustrating symptoms of Parkinson’s. Dave has a great sense of humor & brings the fun to class! “

Our version of the ABC’s. Squat on the vowels, punch on the consonants. Cognitive ☑️ strength☑️ endurance ☑️ now if I can just get them to say it louder and we could have ☑️ off voice amplitude. 3 out of 4 ain’t bad but guess what we’re doing till we get all 4☑️

Cognitive drills. We love to challenge the brain and the body at 413. Our favorite way to do that is with combo drills. Each punch has a number. Using focus mitts and our heavy bags we call out combos for a reactive response. Just one more way to fight our movement disorder.
