Willie Nelson will return to "Austin City Limits" exactly five decades after he performed in its pilot episode on October 17, 1974 — and you can enter to win free tickets to see the show.

Willie Nelson to Headline Austin City Limits 50th Birthday Bash at The Long Center Legendary country musicians Willie Nelson and Asleep at the Wheel to perform free concert celebrating five decades of Austin City Limits.

Willie Nelson to Play Free Concert Celebrating 50 Years of ‘Austin City Limits’ The longest-running music show on TV welcomes back its first performer for a special event on the Long Center lawn.

October 17, 1974 was the day Austin City Limits welcomed Willie Nelson to the stage for the first time to tape the pilot episode of what would go on to be the longest running music television show in American history. Now, Willie Nelson and Family returns on the 50th anniversary of that taping to commemorate Austin City Limits’ remarkable half-century milestone with a Texas-sized outdoor concert on October 17, 2024, at Austin’s Long Center

Austin originals and longtime friends Asleep at the Wheel will kick off the special evening with an opening set for the occasion. The performance will be taped, and highlights will air as a special hour long broadcast of Austin City Limits to air in early 2025 as part of ACL’s Season 50 anniversary.

Austin City Limits 50th Birthday Bash presented by Tito's Vodka is open to the public and free; fans must register with Fair AXS for a chance to attend. Registration opens at 8AM CT Friday, September 20th through 10PM CT Monday, September 23. Those selected to attend will be notified between Thursday, September 26th and Friday, September 27th. An invitation email for a chance to obtain tickets does not guarantee inventory. Tickets are limited and available on a first come first serve basis.

We’re still reeling from what fun last week’s very special 10th Anniversary Austin City Limits Hall of Fame was. Garth Brooks really kicked off our 50th anniversary celebrations with a hoot and holler heard round our great state. Brooks opened the night with unrivaled energy in what would turn out to be a career-spanning, stadium-worthy performance, featuring a guest appearance from wife and fellow Hall of Fame icon Trisha Yearwood, plenty of audience requests, and one of the rowdiest audience sing-alongs Austin City Limits may have ever seen.

Highlights from Brooks’ Hall of Fame induction ceremony will air as a special hourlong Austin City Limits broadcast in early 2025 to celebrate the program’s golden anniversary Season 50.
