The Quesoff Challenge is over and the winner is... El Chile! Congratulations 👏 👏🎉 El Chile will go head to head with past Quesoff champions this Saturday. Huge thanks to all the Quesoff Challenge participants who competed and helped raise funds for the Food Bank: The Cavalier ATX, Fairways Cantina, Independence Brewing Co., Pelóns Tex-Mex Restaurant, Buenos Aires Cafe, Este, The Cedar Door, Sala & Betty, Spread & Co. and Vamonos. You are all winners in the fight against hunger!

With Quesoff back this year, local restaurants are competing in the Quesoff Challenge for a chance to participate in Quesoff this month. Fairways Cantina, Pelóns Tex-Mex Restaurant, Independence Brewing Co. are just a few of the competing restaurants. They will donate $1 of every queso dish sold in May to the Food Bank. The highest contributor will go head to head with past Quesoff winners. Get your queso fix and fight hunger this month. Quesoff is back! This year's queso celebration features past champions and special invitees for a special Champions League edition. Proceeds benefit the Food Bank. Although tickets are sold out, you can still fight hunger.

Leading up to the event is a Quesoff Challenge, where local restaurants — The Cavalier ATX, El Chile, Fairways Cantina, Independence Brewing Co., Pelóns Tex-Mex Restaurant and Vamonos — will compete for a spot in the Quesoff Champions League. Participating restaurants will donate $1 to the Food Bank for each queso dish sold in May. The restaurant with the highest queso sale donations will be invited to Quesoff.

Pelóns Tex-Mex Restaurant/Bar 508 is one of nearly 200 restaurants that received The Conferences for Women grant designed to assist women-owned businesses impacted by the pandemic. On Mom and Pop Business Owners Day, we are shining a light on their business. They told us “We used our grant money to remodel some areas of the restaurant that were in need of repair, specifically removing graffiti and replacing plants from areas that were damaged during the pandemic shutdown.”

They also share how best to support them and businesses like theirs in your own community, "Any support is greatly appreciated but especially when guests visit our restaurant/bar and/or purchase gift cards. Takeout orders help as well and we offer to go cocktails with any food purchase but these orders benefit the restaurant more when they are called in directly, or placed on Toast, and picked up at our location.”

We ate at Pelons for our first visit to Austin, TX. They were short-staffed and the wait was long, but I’m glad we waited. (We just put our name in and walked around for a bit to kill time.) I think there was only one waiter, but he was amazing! He took care of everyone and did an amazing job! I had the fish tacos any my husband had the steak quesadilla, both recommended by our waiter. Both were delicious! Loved the outdoor patios! Thanks!

The cancellation of SXSW due to global health crisis has and will adversely impact thousands of artists, hospitality and production workers, businesses and organizations that rely on that event to survive. Red River Cultural District, which represents live music venues Cheer Up Charlies, Barracuda Austin, Beerland, Texas, Empire Control Room & Garage, Elysium Austin, Mohawk Austin, Scratchouse, Stubb's Austin, Swan Dive and The Venue ATX along with promoters Heard Presents, Margin Walker Presents, Austin-based software startup Prism.fm, and a growing list of Austin-based businesses and individuals, are Banding Together to provide financial relief to artists, venues and events within the Red River Cultural district.

Our venues and staff are ready and willing to work to make ten glorious days of music, art, culture and technology happen across our city, and more folks around town are joining us every minute. Artists and workers have incurred expenses to get to and stay in the "Live Music Capitol of the World" during the next few weeks. Some may have been reimbursed or refunded but many folks are out thousands of dollars. Our goal is to keep as many artists as possible coming to Austin. We also want to assist re-homing events that are losing their venues or can’t afford to pay for equipment or staff.

We are actively working to put artists on replacement showcases.
