4th on the list of ways to support vagus nerve function: Craniosacral Therapy!

A healthy parasympathetic nerve response, which is governed by the vagus nerve, is essential for our mental wellbeing and physical health. This is because when we are functioning from a parasympathetic ‘point of view’, we are able to repair, digest and assimilate nutrients in our food properly and regenerate. ⁣

We have evolved to be in this state the majority of the time, however, due to the pressures of modern life and chronic stress, many of us are continuously in a sympathetic state, where we are constantly in a physiological ‘fight or flight’ mode. Stress is a major risk factor for all health conditions and emerging research is showing that it is also a fundamental driver of many of today’s chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes and irritable bowel disease.⁣

Read our latest article on vagus nerve function and how to improve it with simple, key steps you can start integrating into your life now. ⁣To access the full article, click here: https://bit.ly/37OIc3u

In a nationwide prospective cohort study of more than 1 million women living in Denmark, an increased risk for first use of an antidepressant and first diagnosis of depression was found among users of different types of hormonal contraception, with the highest rates among adolescents.

PMID: 27680324

Teenagers who had been prescribed the combined oral contraceptive pill were 80% more likely to be treated for depression with antidepressants, and those on the progestin-only pill were twice as likely.

Do We Even Know How To Socialize Anymore?

“The world's a changed place, and you've probably changed a bit, too. Set realistic boundaries, and pace yourself: that might mean setting a max number of activities for a weekend, having social "off-hours," or limiting how long houseguests can stay. Draw lines that serve you.”

Do We Even Know How To Socialize Anymore? The pandemic has reshaped social routines. Lots of people are worried about returning to a pre-coronavirus world of water-cooler talk and packed social schedules.

Looking Forward to Recovery: Finding Encouragement in your recovery from Bulimia

"Other alternative medicine practitioners may also serve a role whether this is with acupuncture, massage and tissue release, or other energetic therapies such as Reiki and Craniosacral treatment. Many people find that the use of alternative medicine compliments other aspects of recovery quite well as it helps to address issues that one might not be consciously aware of."

Looking Forward to Recovery: Finding Encouragement in your recovery from Bulimia While an individual is moving along the path of recovery it is very important to have support because this should not be a solo venture. In addition to the support that one may find from friends and family, it is important to have professionals who are trained in the issues associated with eating di...

LISTENING WITH THE HAND- The hand is an incredibly intricate structure that allows us to feel with tremendous precision and generate body-wide reactions. Osteopaths have long celebrated the hand’s ability to “listen” to tissues by feeling and letting the hand sense subtle movements and tensions. This has been expanded upon by many other manual therapists since as a foundation for treatment. The mechanism by which this ”extraordinary” sense functions is of course hidden in the fascia. Fascia is the network in which all of the nervous system’s receptors live, and in this case the most important are mechanoreceptors and tactile cutaneous receptors. Fascial tissue is complexly layered in the hand and the receptors work to provide the unique signaling to the brain so it can “listen“ and make a mental picture of the sensations during palpation.
This could explain why trained therapists feel pulses of the PRM or subtle density changes where others cannot. Their brain has learned to “hear” their hand receptors better than other untrained individuals, much like a person can learn to read braille or be a virtuoso guitar player.
Knowing anatomy conceptually is important, but “feeling“ anatomy is critical to building the most accurate understanding of the body.

Dr. Liz Carter

Coronavirus: there’s one massively important variable that naturopathic doctors are very familiar with but that isn’t being discussed.

No, it's not supplements, I just needed a photo 😂

That variable is called terrain.

Huh?

That’s about right.

It’s not talked about in conventional medicine, and Wikipedia calls it “medically obsolete.”

I disagree, Wikipedia.

Find out why in my new blog below!

In the meantime, here are my top recommendations:

-> Stay calm, don’t panic. 81% of cases are mild.

-> Even if you’re not at risk, minimizing contact with large groups right now could help to decrease the spread of the virus. The main reason why this is important is so our healthcare system doesn’t get overwhelmed with those who are very sick from the virus. Coronavirus sheds a lot before symptoms appear, which is why it’s spreading more rapidly than the flu typically does.

-> The most common symptoms are fever, cough, and fatigue. Not so much a sore throat, though cases vary.

-> If you have symptoms, contact your local Department of Health. They can direct you where to get tested, as testing is still very spottily available in the US.

-> Read my blog for empowering info on what you can do to keep yourself healthy! Plus tons of extra resources from many sources to help you find balanced information, no fearmongering.

Another great podcast with @dhrupurohit speaking to the value and effectiveness of Craniosacral Therapy! ⁣

⚡️Tension is just energy bound in the body. It is felt when the central nervous system (spinal cord) contracts - a reactive response to stress. High stress in the system is fed into everything - disease process, chronic illness, pain, etc. ⁣

🧠 Craniosacral therapy works directly with the central nervous system, engaging with the spinal cord, meninges, brain, cerebral spinal fluid, and cranial nerves (including vagus!). CST is essentially the intersection of the physical /dense body, spirit / psyche, and energy /fluid body. ⁣

💆‍♀️ True transformation requires you to be connected to the thing that needs changed. In my experience, CST helps you to be present in your body and often brings about clarity and insight. A CST session allows time and space to sit with ‘the thing’, which is the first step in clearing it up. ⁣

🦋 Discomfort = stagnation. Craniosacral therapy can help recover a sense of flow and vitality that underlies health. @ West Seattle
