A healthy parasympathetic nerve response, which is governed by the vagus nerve, is essential for our mental wellbeing and physical health. This is because when we are functioning from a parasympathetic ‘point of view’, we are able to repair, digest and assimilate nutrients in our food properly and regenerate. ⁣

We have evolved to be in this state the majority of the time, however, due to the pressures of modern life and chronic stress, many of us are continuously in a sympathetic state, where we are constantly in a physiological ‘fight or flight’ mode. Stress is a major risk factor for all health conditions and emerging research is showing that it is also a fundamental driver of many of today’s chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes and irritable bowel disease.⁣

In a nationwide prospective cohort study of more than 1 million women living in Denmark, an increased risk for first use of an antidepressant and first diagnosis of depression was found among users of different types of hormonal contraception, with the highest rates among adolescents.⁠

⚡️Tension is just energy bound in the body. It is felt when the central nervous system (spinal cord) contracts - a reactive response to stress. High stress in the system is fed into everything - disease process, chronic illness, pain, etc. ⁣

🧠 Craniosacral therapy works directly with the central nervous system, engaging with the spinal cord, meninges, brain, cerebral spinal fluid, and cranial nerves (including vagus!). CST is essentially the intersection of the physical /dense body, spirit / psyche, and energy /fluid body. ⁣

💆‍♀️ True transformation requires you to be connected to the thing that needs changed. In my experience, CST helps you to be present in your body and often brings about clarity and insight. A CST session allows time and space to sit with ‘the thing’, which is the first step in clearing it up. ⁣

🦋 Discomfort = stagnation. Craniosacral therapy can help recover a sense of flow and vitality that underlies health. @ West Seattle
