Hello, my name is Angela Baird-Hepworth, LPC. I am a PhD candidate in general psychology with Capella University, I am an adoptee, and I am conducting a research study on adult adoptees.
I am looking for adults that are adopted and have experience in intimate relationships. Individuals that qualify are adoptees 35 years old or over, adopted between birth and 12 months old to two-parent households. The adoptee’s adopted parents cannot be biologically related to them.
This process is highly and extremely confidential. As the researcher, I do not even need to know your name or any identifiable information. The research questions relate to your intimate relationships as an adoptee. The purpose of the research is to help increase the data on adult adoptees as there is a lack of research in this area.

Ethiopian brother searching for Oromo girl, Sena Kebede, born in 1995 adopted at 8 years old in 2003 to a family in USA via Kidane Mihret Orphanage in Addis. Sena lived in Oromia region, Waliso town with her parents and her 3 siblings. Her mother passed away while living in Waliso. Sena had a heart problem but her father could not afford the medical expenses. She may remember being taken to Tikur Anbasa Hospital (Black Lion Hospital) in Addis but they were unable to help so the father decided to relinquish Sena so the adoptive family could help her. The brother is searching for her to hear an update on her well-being.

For many expectant moms, pregnancy choices are not equal

Financial hardship - which may be a temporary situation - should not need to be a reason for a woman to place her baby for adoption.

If you are an organization in Texas that provides services - food, housing, job training, child care - that can help pregnant women parent their babies, please let us know. We are always looking for organizations we can refer to when family preservation is possible.

Texas is one of only 17 states that restricts adoptees' access to original birth certificate, and it's time for that to change.

Getting them back is a challenge | Houston Public Media Texas born adoptees can’t access their original birth certificates until they’re 18. Opinion | I Was Adopted. I Know the Trauma It Can Inflict.

"What Justice Barrett and others are suggesting women to do in lieu of abortion is not a small thing. It is life changing, irrevocable, and not to be taken lightly. It often causes trauma, even when things work out, and it’s a disservice to adoptees and their families, biological and adopted, to pretend otherwise in service of a neat political narrative."

Opinion | I Was Adopted. I Know the Trauma It Can Inflict. What Amy Coney Barrett doesn’t realize is that adoption is often infinitely more difficult, expensive, dangerous and potentially traumatic than terminating a pregnancy in its early stages.

"Still, as adoptive parents will tell you, no matter how much you anticipate or try to prepare, the adoption process is full of curveballs."

What was the biggest curveball in your adoption?

Perspective | As Pete and Chasten Buttigieg are learning, adoption is full of surprises Many people have been (not so kindly) asking how they couldn’t have known, or why the secretary needed parental leave. And, as with most things parenting, the new dads are being judged. But I know quite well just how many surprises can be associated with adoption.

How an Adoption Broker Cashed In on Prospective Parents’ Dreams 10/21/2021

How an Adoption Broker Cashed In on Prospective Parents’ Dreams

While many (if not most) licensed adoption agencies strive to be ethical and transparent, there are some unscrupulous adoption "professionals" out there. If you are considering adoption – either as an expectant parent or adoptive family – start by making sure you are working with an adoption agency or attorney that can legally facilitate adoptions in your state.

In Texas, adoption agencies are required to be licensed by the State and undergo regular audits. You can check for licensing status of child-placing agencies, as well as inspections and corrective actions, at https://www.dfps.state.tx.us/Child_Care/Search_Texas_Child_Care/ppFacilitySearchAdoption.asp.

Our Story

Adoption Advocates is a nonprofit adoption agency licensed by the State of Texas since 1991. We offer expertise and sensitivity in meeting the needs of expectant parents and prospective adoptive parents.

AAI and its staff are firmly committed to respecting all members of the triad. We know that expectant parents come to us with many fears and feeling alone. We gently guide them through the process with warmth and support ensuring that they have explored all of their options fully before initiating their adoption plan. We know that adoptive parents have often suffered tremendous losses with their infertility. We educate and inform our adoptive parents as they take time to make their adoption decisions. Ultimately, Adoption Advocates places the child’s best interest first and are committed to our adoptees for a lifetime.

AAI is committed to open adoption in which the birth parents and adoptive parents have an authentic relationship — including meeting, sharing information, and maintaining contact after placement. AAI recognizes that all clients are different, therefore, there are varying degrees of openness depending on the clients’ needs and desires. We believe this benefits everyone involved, especially the adoptee.

Adoption Advocates believes a loving home for a child is not defined by the ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation of the parents. We support the LGBT community in building families through same-sex adoption and are proud to have worked with many gay and le***an couples.
