Senior Project Manager Ellen Soll and Transportation Planner Victoria Byrne are working with our partners at the City of Victoria to gather input for the Victoria Active Transportation Master Plan. ATG held several stakeholder and steering committee meetings and conducted a walking audit with steering committee members. Walk Audits are a tool in which professionals take community members and decision makers on a walk to identify what makes their streets feel safe or comfortable and what is missing from the pedestrian environment.

In honor of Earth Day, ATG would like to highlight the Waco Transit System, which is currently developing a Low/No Emissions Fleet Transition Plan. ATG is assisting the agency by analyzing alternatives to a gas-powered fleet, including diesel, hybrid, battery electric, hydrogen fuel cell and others to understand the benefits, risks, and life cycle costs to implement each alternative. The plan will position Waco for Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funding.

Ellen Soll, AICP, and René Pastorek, AICP, ENV SP, presented at the Georgia Planning Association’s Spring Conference in Atlanta this week on the use of Thoroughfare Plans to build connectivity in suburban communities. The session covered an overview of Complete Streets and the tools to integrate these principles into a comprehensive network strategy for implementation. The presentation also included a brief how-to on including resilience concepts in standard cross-sections. More than 50 session attendees included transportation and other planners from the Georgia Department of Transportation; several of Georgia’s MPOs, counties, cities, and academia;, as well as Rochester | DCCM’s Project Director Bill Schmid, AICP.

We applaud Clair Marceaux, PCED, CLED, who joins fewer than 25 Economic Development professionals who have earned a CLED (Certified Louisiana Economic Developer) certification. Taught by nationally recognized economic development experts with content tailored specifically to Louisiana, it takes an average minimum of 2 years to complete the certification. Clair’s capstone project, which provided a blueprint for developing community development agreements, will remain in the Louisiana Industrial Development Executives Association (LIDEA) archives to serve as a tool for economic development professionals.

Tom specializes in traffic modeling, highway capacity analysis, traffic forecasting and highway safety. He is the past Chair of the TRB Highway Capacity and Quality of Service Committee and shares his experience with up-and-coming engineers as a part-time instructor at the University of Kentucky, his alma mater. A tech enthusiast, Sudheer is a whiz at TransModeler, VISSIM, CORSIM, and Synchro, supported by his background in Python scripting and big data tools. ATG’s Ellen Soll, AICP, along with the Federal Highway Administration, presented a Complete Streets Workshop on behalf of the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission in Beaumont, TX, last week. Complete Streets is an approach to transportation that ensures all projects consider the needs of everyone using the road. The workshop provided attendees with an overview of Complete Streets, a synopsis of current federal activities, and identified opportunities to apply a Complete Streets approach in their own community. JD Allen and Ed Elam presented important transit safety information today at the ALTRANS and Transportation Association of Alabama Fall Meeting Thursday in Florence, AL. JD spoke about updates to the drug and alcohol policy, while Ed explained the development of National Transit Database responses. Becoming educated about both policies allows transit to continue operating safely and to comply with ALDOT and Federal Transit Administration regulations.

Clair brings two decades of experience in community and economic development, having worked for local governments, the private sector, and the energy industry. She directed a subdivision of the State of Louisiana, the Cameron Parish Port, Harbor & Terminal District. Additionally, she was LNG Americas Female Executive of the Year 2021, current Vice President of LIDEA and is on the ballot to serve as 2023 LIDEA President.

Alben Cooper III, a transportation engineer in ATG | DCCM’s Metairie office, won the 2022 President’s Award from the Institute of Transportation’s Deep South Section. For the past two years, Alben has served as chair of the DSITE Scholarship Committee. Due to the pandemic, it had been several years since the Section had issued scholarships to transportation-focused students at Louisiana and Mississippi colleges. Alben’s hard work led to the Section awarding scholarships to three students from Louisiana State University in 2021. Congratulations, Alben!

Louisiana DOTD , along with ATG team members Ellen Soll and Ed Elam presented the draft of the Louisiana Coordinated Statewide Human Services Transportation Plan to the Transportation Committee of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Disability Affairs. Participants received an overview of the plan’s development, key findings, and recommendations for improving coordination of transportation resources in Louisiana. Comments received during the meeting and from committee members will be incorporated into the final plan. We understand the opportunities to improve coordination fall at the intersection of addressing needs with available resources.
