Bilat Stephen Hernandez (shown on right) hit the court at the recent Cactus Classic StandUp Amputee Basketball Tournament at Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center and reminded everyone why the game is just... the game. No asterisks. No footnotes. Just basketball.

Today we take a moment to remember the men and women who sacrificed so the rest of us could live the lives we love.

*Pictured: Sgt. Matthew Pennington enlisted in the U.S. Army at 17, serving in the Airborne Signal Corps and volunteering for three combat deployments to the Middle East. On April 29, 2006, he was severely injured by an IED in Iraq — an injury that resulted in amputation, limb salvage, PTSD, and TBI. Rather than stepping back, Matthew has spent the years since advocating fiercely for veterans, earning recognition as a Purple Heart Ambassador, PTSD and su***de awareness speaker, and a voice that reached all the way to the New York Times.Thank you for your service and sacrifice, Sgt. Pennington.
