When it’s sleeting outside, you order-up fireside in-home massage.

As a massage therapist and physical therapist assistant, I’m required to take continuing education credits. I’m always on the hunt to take challenging courses from industry leaders.

I had the pleasure to work and learn from Dr Leahy. He’s the founder of Active Release Techniques (ART) and is currently on staff with the Denver Broncos.

I learned a ton and I’m excited to start using these techniques in my practice to help increase motion and reduce pain for my clients.

Market Research is a tough job, but someone’s got to do it.
Growing up in Florida, you would’ve thought I’d experienced beach massage before. The ocean waves always provide the perfect soundtrack for relaxation. I didn’t think the beach could get better, but this definitely took it up a notch.

My clients are the absolute BEST! I can attribute 95% of my growth and steady bookings to good ol’ fashion word-of-mouth. Having my clients refer me to their loved ones is honestly the highest compliment that I can receive. I’m forever grateful!

I'm taking appointments again!

As some of you know, I took some time off in January to honor my 40th birthday. It's still hard for me to believe that I've entered a new decade. Somehow, I thought I would feel wiser and my body would ache a bit more, but maybe that comes later in the year.

Thanks for all the Birthday love! You sure know how to make a girl feel special.

I hope to see you soon!

Is an ancient Chinese medicine healing practice to alleviate chronic pain and inflammation. A tool is used to scrap the skin and create discoloration, petechia. Although it looks intense, this technique is NOT painful and the marks only last a few days.

Gua sha is traditionally used to treat acute or chronic muscle pain, improve circulation and reduce inflammation, support the immune system and address upper respiratory illnesses, and release tension in areas where there is restricted movement.

It’s a great technique to add into your Fall treatment sessions.

Trauma and stress, whether slight or catastrophic, can interfere with brain function and leave a lasting imprint. When we focus our attention on imagery and body awareness, our brains move into a Theta brainwave pattern. This often occurs during a massage, when we are deeply relaxed. It can also be elicited with guided meditation or Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra addresses and releases the unconscious holding patterns we experience from trauma without having to relive these painful experiences. Much like massage, people report decrease anxiety and muscular guarding after Yoga Nidra.

The best part about Yoga Nidra is that it requires minimal participation and is experienced by lying down. Grab a blanket, eye mask, and pillow and I'll see you on the other side.

Guided Meditation is a more accessible way to dip your toes into meditation.

Like many forms of meditation, this specific type of meditation, yoga nidra, alters your brainwave patterns. It brings you into a deep meditative state while you remain awake. I liken it to laying down on the couch for a nap and hearing the TV in the background, but not sleeping and not being awake. It's similar to a dreamlike state. This deep state of relaxation has been proven to nourish the organs, nervous system and is very useful in discharging traumatic or distressing events.

The original yoga nidra script came about from a terrible event. I wrote this meditation in 2015, while working with a young client that had just suffered a spinal cord injury and was paralyzed from the neck down. The initial injury she sustained was very traumatic, not to mention all of the loss she was experiencing from being completely dependent on others for her care. I wanted to empower her to participate in an activity where she was not dependent on anyone to facilitate anything for her. Yoga Nidra seemed to be that self-reliant solution.

I've rewritten some of the script, but it is largely focuses on engaging and release facial muscle and imagery, which is one of the only areas that this client could control and did not need assistance.

I find it fascinating that our facial muscles are used continuously throughout the day in input and output of communicating, yet are frequently overlooked in massage, relaxation, and stretches. This session offers a deeper way to connect and relax the face, body, and mind.

Massage therapy with an assortment of holistic massage techniques, methodologies, and client empowerment tools that are used to tackle a variety of issues.

Acupressure and stretch for Lung Line 04/17/2020

Acupressure and stretch for Lung Line

This week’s short wellness timeout combines breath, stretching, and acupressure of the Lung Meridian Line.

In Chinese medicine, when the lungs are out of balance this can present as grief, inability to express emotion, or prolonged sadness.

As a collective, we have been experiencing an influx of loss. Many of us have lost jobs, social lives, our normal routines, and our ability to go places.

Navigating grief is certainly an ongoing process. This is just one short way to provide some support and compassion through mindfulness and movement to free up stagnation in the body.

When we create “space” through the Lung Line, we have greater access to courage and the ability to take pleasure in our experiences.

Acupressure and stretch for Lung Line A short moving meditation combining breath, mindfulness, stretching, and lung meridian line.

Mini Meditation - Kidney Line Acupressure 04/08/2020

Mini Meditation - Kidney Line Acupressure

I'm stepping WAY outside my comfort zone here. I'm definitely a behind the scenes person and I avoid the limelight as much as possible. However, to be of service to my clients who have been reaching out to me, I'll swallow my discomfort to offer support.

This mini-meditation is a combination of breath, stretching, and acupressure with the Kidney Meridian Line.

Massage is a passive way to activate the body's parasympathetic nervous system (the body's ability to relax). There are several other active ways to illicit that nervous system engagement. Movement, mindfulness, and meditation are some other ways to drop in.

In Chinese medicine, the kidneys, when out of balance, are associated with the emotion of fear, which there has not been a lack of in today's current climate. The Chinese view the emotions as energy. They are not concerned so much with what emotions are present personally or collective, but that we continue to fully experience and discharge the emotions to maintain homeostasis within the body. When this energetic flow within the body is impeded that is when injury occurs to the body.

The thought is by using the breath and mindfully stretching the kidney line, we are moving the stagnation out of this line.

Mini Meditation - Kidney Line Acupressure A short meditation that integrates movement, breath, acupressure, stretching, and the kidney meridian line.

I’ve encountered a lot of intense emotions over the last couple of weeks, but I’m especially moved by my clients this week. I’m experiencing the deepest gratitude today.

Unprompted, a couple of my clients bought eGift cards from me, knowing that this would be an especially hard time for my business. Their kindness, generosity, and community-first thinking brought me to tears. (which if you know me, that’s not an easy task)

So thank you to all the little helpers out there that are doing great things everywhere to help support others out there that are hurting!

Hey!! It's been a minute!

While you haven't heard much from me lately, I've been busy learning, working, and improving my knowledge, manual skills, and business structure.

The newest and most exciting news is that I have started a fellowship that explores Chinese medicine in relation with massage.

As many of you know, I use fascial lines of muscle groups and movement therapy during sessions to unwind tightness and restriction. Many of these fascial lines mimic chinese meridian lines. I'm excited to investigate and share how these lines of tightness relate to energy, emotion, and organ health.

K I N E S I O T A P I N G

You've seen everyone from grandmas with low back pain to elite Olympians wear this tape.

What is it?
Kinesio Tape was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase a Chiropractor/Acupuncturist in the 1970s. He was in search of a tape that mimicked the elasticity of human soft tissue instead of stiff and bulky athletic tape, which was the gold standard at that time.

How does it work?
Different results can be achieved with this versatile tape, depending on the placement, shape (I, X, Y, basketweave cuts), and pull of the tape. The tape simulates soft tissue and therefore can be used to facilitate/inhibit muscle contraction, reduce inflammation/bruising, or act as support to an injured area.

I've had my CKTP (Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner) certification since 2011. If you'd like to know more about kinesio tape, it's methods/uses, or if it would be an effective treatment for you, I'm here to chat.

Making Waves

Our brain waves change throughout the day. We typically operate in Beta waves most of the waking day. When receiving a massage or meditating, our brainwaves will toggle between some combination of alpha, theta, or delta waves.

Some benefits of Flow State
🔹Deep relaxation and stress relief
🔹Anxiety reduction
🔹Mind and body healing
🔹Lower heart rate and blood pressure
🔹Strengthens intuition
🔹Increases ability to problem solving

Get out of your head and ride the waves.

The Danger in Fake Positivity and Spiritual Bypassing

It’s not all hearts, sparkle, and unicorns y’all. Growth often comes in the form of making room for your inner goblins. When difficult emotions finally have a seat at table, we often open up freedom and space within our minds and bodies.

The Danger in Fake Positivity and Spiritual Bypassing Today’s spiritual (and sometimes psychology) world feels fake to me. Lots of pretty blond yogis talking about positive vibes, about not…

“The body is far more interconnected than most people think.
It turns out that osteocalcin is a messenger, sent by bone to regulate crucial processes all over the body.”

Happy World Penguin Day!

Lets unlock those hips!

For the last three days, I've been lucky enough to train with the best! I've been studying and practicing manual therapy from those that learned from Ida Rolf's teachings. (The Creator of Structural Integration) She's quite a remarkable woman in her own right.

If you're interested in opening up those shortened and often overlooked hip muscles, give me a ring.
