"When death is inevitable, the way of dying is important"
Everyone longs for peace in the world. They long to see humankind living in peace and harmony where there is no unrest or threats of riots, strikes and war, and they long to do something to help bring this state about, but don't know how to do it.
Realise that this state of peace and harmony starts with the individual and there is so much each individual can do to help bring it about. First of all learn to go quietly about your daily business, silently blessing everyone and pouring out love to them. By doing this you bring peace and harmony all around you. If you go around feeling annoyed with someone, or are resentful and quarrelsome and are a troublemaker, you are helping to bring about war. Stop and consider this a moment and you will realise what a tremendous responsibility you hold in your hands, how your individual behaviour can tip the balance of the world situation. When you can really take this to heart and do something about it, you will be doing your part to bring about peace in the world.

Can Medieval Sleeping Habits Fix America’s Insomnia? The history of “first sleep” and “second sleep” holds surprising lessons about preindustrial life, 21st-century anxiety, and the problem with digging for utopia in the past.

On the devotional path, they describe that the surrender is not just the goal, but it's the path itself. Surrender happens by grace and we prepare ourselves for that grace to manifest by these practices, which clean our heart, which clean our karmas, which free us from negativity and our own stories, and our own limitations that we put on ourselves, and the way we treat ourselves and others. That's how we prepare.

Because our deepest wounding, which is always a wounding around love, emerges relationally, it will be most effectively tended, repaired, and healed within a relational field. We are relational beings and all healing is relational in its essence.
The nature of this relationship, and that of the Other, is of the mystery and can take many forms, as a shapeshifter and trickster-ally. It can be astonishing and is sure to never look like we imagined.
The death of an old dream is an essential aspect of the death-rebirth journey, the dream of me and my life and the way it was all supposed to turn out. The invitation is to hold the shattered soul-pieces near and grieve all that we will inevitably lose on the path of awakening and healing.
It is these tears that are the alchemical aqua permanens, which water the seeds of new life. In tending these tears the broken pieces are not mended but revealed to be carriers of light, as they are, in their un-mended state. They are whole and complete in their brokenness, and not in need of being transformed.
It is the Friend, in whatever form It appears, that parts the veil and cleanses our perception, by way of mercy and grace.
That grace is not only the sweet and flowy kind that we cherish and long for – nurturing, holding, containment within the womb of the Divine Mother – but will at times appear in a more fierce and wrathful form, and will reorganize and take us to dust.
This is the grace of the alchemical yellowing, the putrefaction, which is also the activity of love, but is an emanation of its darker side.
It is a coming together of unity and multiplicity, solar and lunar, that reveals a vessel in which love is able to find its way here, incarnating through our bodies, emotions, and imagination.
Whether sweet or fierce, containing or reorganizing, each are grace, and will polish the heart with a unique fragrance of the divine.

National Day of Prayer - A Call for Spiritual Unity
On the Full Moon
Wednesday August 30, 2023
From Sunrise to Noon in your respective Homelands and Territories
The National Turtle Lodge Elders and Knowledge Keepers Council are calling for a National Day of Prayer on the Full Moon Wednesday August 30, 2023.
This Call for a National Day of Prayer is in response to a Dream that Elder Stephen Kakfwi (Dene Nation) received, directing us that we need to offer a collective prayer, lifting our Sacred Pipes, Lighting our Sacred Fires, Sounding our Drums, Singing our Songs, and Praying for all our Relatives across Turtle Island who are suffering and facing challenges.
We ask that you join us from your Homelands and Territories on Wednesday August 30, 2023, as we lift our Pipes, light our Sacred Fires, sing our traditional Songs, smudge, offer our Sacred To***co, and offer prayers in our own traditions in a collective way.

This is a 3,200-year-old attendance sheet taken at work in Ancient Kemet/Egypt. The New Egyptian hieratic script was written on limestone in red and black ink and provided information such as the date (season and number), the name of the worker, and the reason for being absent.
For example, on month 4 of Winter, day 24, a worker by the name of Pennub was absent from work because his mother was sick, and he had to take care of her.
Here are some of the other reasons provided for work absence:
1. Drinking with Khonsu
2. His daughter was bleeding
3. Libating to his father
4. Brewing beer
5. Building his house
6. Fetching stone for the scribe
7. With Khons making remedies
8. Making remedies for the scribe's wife

The Root of Zen: An Interview with David Hinton – Lions Roar Randy Rosenthal interviews award-winning translator David Hinton, whose new book, "China Root," goes deep into the Taoist origins of Chan (Zen).

There are two immensely popular and presumably categorical ways we often talk about social change: one, as a matter of "changing the world" and two, as a matter of "changing ourselves." Both ideas, temporarily demarcated here, are not mutually exclusive. In the former, the operative assumption is of a world that is agentially impoverished; a world that is mechanical and clunky and a mere reflection of the luminous intelligence of the human self. "Changing the world" riskily emphasizes an anthropocentric universe with miraculous human actors that are set against a 'background world' of things ultimately reducible to human sociality.
The other idea - that which focuses on "changing ourselves" - deifies consciousness as the very stuff that makes up the universe - and, in so doing, equates a sense of internal wellbeing and "alignment" with harmonious relations. This, of course, like its outward-facing counterpart, centralizes meaning, language, presence, and reflexion. It’s a matter of looking at the “man in the mirror”, getting our priorities straight before addressing the world outside of us.
Both ideas, depending on the same logic, are really the same thing: an apartheid of relations between the self and its context; an affective and desirous configuration of the citizen as a subject of entitlement; a reduction of experience to consciousness. That “we” can “change the world” either by acting upon it from a purity of ideas or by turning inwards is a move that ironically postpones ‘the world’, replacing ‘it’ with a totalizing artefact fitting to modern imaginaries.
What then? Should we not do something then? Should we put up our hands and feet and do nothing? The calculation that balances “failing to turn up” with “nothing happening” misappropriates agency as a human property, and – more critically – is unable to see that agency (or the capacity to respond to/enter relations with) enlists bodies in its ongoing flows and tides and ripples. Even the moral imperatives to address uneven circumstances and oppressive situations are matters of territory subject to and contingent upon ‘larger’ shifts and molecular events in and around us.
When I think about postactivism, I do not think about it as either a surer means to changing the world, changing ourselves, or doing nothing. I think of it as a disruption of the ways we imagine agency and becoming; as a release from sensorial domains and affective pathways that ritualize the familiar; and as a coming alive to other questions about what acting is indebted to. Postactivism is not a turning-inward or a turning-outward, since the architecture that guarantees the twain shall never meet is disarranged by a crack. Postactivism is the betweening of things, a glimpse of the glitch. Autistic perception. Postactivism is the call to congregate with disability as a site of generous undertakings and possibilities.
Postactivism is a turn of grace, a falling off the highway, a disruption of the pheromone trail. A cosmic risk that invites new problems and new questions: can we risk changing the world? Can we risk victory? What else is here?

Grana Padano Cheese May Lower Blood Pressure | Ingredient Solutions Italian researchers conducted a trial on 30 hypertensive adults over a 2 month period. They concluded that Grana Padano cheese may lower blood pressure

Reducing chemical exposure is what I call "low hanging fruit" when it comes to managing and becoming more resilient to stress in our lives. Our bodies react to chemicals and heavy metals as an invader and something that needs to be removed. This creates a stress response in the body - and if the body can't remove these invaders, they wreck havoc on our cells and tissues and organs creating more stress in the form of oxidative stress, inflammation etc.
As caregivers we endure A LOT of stress just by the context of our lives. Reducing exposure to stress is a major component of self care. We can't control the context of our situation but we can change how we live in it. Reduce chemical exposure, reduce our stress load.
It doesn't have to happen all at once - every little step counts.

What is Original Spirit (Yuan Shen)?
All that we encounter in life holds a seed of truth within it, sent to us from the heavens, the eternal Tao of Universal Consciousness, the Wuji, Source, Origin, the emptiness of limitless potentiality, for us to hear and see and touch and know: to water, nourish, and grow to fruition. But it is up to each of us individually to follow our path and make the most of the wisdom, virtue, and compassion that we cultivate, living to our fullest potential and fulfilling our destiny.
By experiencing one's original spirit, the unity of life is realized, the inseparable nature of life is realized, the clarity of one's true nature is realized. This insight is essential to self-realization, health, happiness, and transformation. This insight can provide the inspiration and motivation to change a life, to live in a way that allows synchronization with shen (spirit), to be a living expression of shen. Acupuncture can have a profound effect on releasing attachments and imprints that prevent an individual from realizing original spirit. And it can guide one's focus or attention on self- realization.
Taoist teachings are like master keys unlocking all doors and help us to become like a child returning to the original Source, the original force that is our birthright. The ultimate purpose is to return to our original state- the source. This is beyond the boundaries of time and space, so to "return to Source", we must broaden our minds and empty ourselves, we must let go of the fixed, limiting ideas of Newtonian physics and realize that we are the universe, we are stardust.
According to The Secret of the Golden Flower as translated by Timothy Cleary, the original spirit is the formless essence of awareness; it is unconditioned and transcends culture and history. It is the celestial mind, primal and universal. The Secret of the Golden Flower is devoted to the recovery and refinement of the original spirit.
