Dr. Wang joined our practice last year and she has been an incredible addition to our growing team. She is originally from Houston, and went to UT Austin 🤟🏼 for her bachelors. She then graduated from USC with her dental degree 😷and continued on to compete a clinical residency program at UT Houston.

Dr. Wang enjoys all disciplines of general dentistry 🦷, but she has a special fondness for surgery, including implant placement.

When she isn’t taking great care of our patients, she loves being a mom to her 1 year old son 👶🏻, watching Manchester United soccer ⚽️and Ted Lasso, dancing 💃🏻, and trying new sushi restaurants 🍣.

Our sweet patient Lisa finally pulled the trigger on a smile makeover. She had two old veneers on her front teeth and cavities elsewhere. We delivered 4 crowns and 6 veneers to give her smile a complete transformation! 🙌🏻

As a dentist, a question I often hear from my patients is, “How fast can I get this done?”

We live in a era of instant gratification. Efficiency and same day dentistry are things we prioritize and that our patients value, but some aspects of dentistry take ✨time✨. In this case, a tooth was traumatized and could not be saved. Implants that are placed in the smile zone are more technical and require more planning and expertise.

Proper implant angulation during surgical placement is critical, bone preparation, followed by a healing provisional crown or abutment that supports the gums during healing.

When an implant is ready to be restored, a skilled lab technician designs a crown that passively supports the tissue so that the crown looks like it’s emerging from the gums like a natural tooth does. This isn’t easy and it’s referred to as a tooth’s ✨emergent profile✨.

So my answer to patients who ask me the instant gratification question in cases that take time to produce a natural result is: “Do you want this done quickly, or do you want it done right?”

Sometimes the best things in life take time. Respect the process.

We are excited to announce that we will be reopening our practice this Friday, May 1st. Over the next several months, we will offer extended hours and days to accommodate the many patients we had to reschedule due to the extended closure time.

The team at PPFD will be strictly adhering to the CDC guidelines for healthcare providers, most of which we were already doing prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to our already strict sanitation policy, you will notice the following differences at our office over the next few months:

1) We ask that our patients arrive 5-10 minutes early, and stay in the car until they are called to come into the office. This eliminates time and patient interaction in the waiting area.

2) A member of our administrative team will take each patient's temperature before they are allowed back into the patient area.

3) All members of our team will wear masks, and you will notice an increase in procedure-dependent personal protective equipment.

Our team has been closely monitoring the developments on COVID-19 here in our community. We are reaching out again to inform you that we have made the difficult but necessary decision to temporarily close down our practice effective 4 PM, March 17th, 2020, due to COVID-19 and its potential impact on our community. Please note that patients who have an oral surgery appointment on Thursday, March 19th with Dr. Jake Duong will still be seen.

This situation is developing rapidly, and at the present time we are waiting for additional direction from Texas State Board of Dental Examiners & Governor Abbott regarding emergency appointments. We are currently able to see emergency patients on a case-by-case basis. This includes patients who are in active treatment (example: a patient who is in a temporary crown & is waiting for their permanent crown to be delivered) as well as current patients who are having a dental emergency (broken tooth causing pain, etc).

As we promised, we are still here for you. If you have a true dental emergency during our closure and are an active patient (and have had an exam within the last two years), you may call our main office line at 512-250-2424 and you will be given the option to reach Dr. James' cell phone. It's estimated that 1 in 3 patients grind or clench their teeth during the day or at night during sleep. A condition known as Bruxism, when left untreated, can lead to jaw disorders, headaches, damaged teeth and other problems.

Don’t wait until it hurts to call us or schedule a recommended filling.

Small cavities generally do not cause pain. Once the tooth is hurting, it can sometimes mean that the cavity has moved into the nerve of the tooth and can no longer be fixed with a filling.
