If you’re like me, you believe every new parent needs postpartum support.

Our culture spends so much time preparing parents for birth that we forget to help them plan for the realities of postpartum recovery and life with a newborn.

Postpartum plans are just as important as birth plans but most new parents have no idea how to make one.

We collaborated with Irasema Reza Bailey, a doula of the Austin-based doula collective Birth Comadres, to create a postpartum care plan template and this course that walks you step-by-step in planning for the 4th trimester:

https://birthbabybodycourses.thinkific.com/courses/creating-a-postpartum-care-plan-prepare-for-birth-recovery-and-life-with-a-newborn
Representation for bilingual communities of color in the birthing community is so important! As an indigenous mama it was really important for ourbfamily to have a natural birth and reclaiming the initiation of motherhood as a spiritual rite of passage. Irasema helped our family and ceremonial community create a birth plan that honored our birth as ceremony, she held space for us with love and compassion during the birth, and provided phenomenal post-partum support in a culturally significant way that I attribute to her professional training and her knowledge of traditional medicines and practices from her Mexican Indigenous roots. Her womb closing ceremony with the rebozo gave me an opportunity to recenter and ground myself after giving birth and allowed me to prepare for our “cuarentena” so that I could focus on nursing and bonding with our babies. I am thrilled that her passion for birth work is blossoming and empowering more doulas in bilingual communities of color to discover and offer trained culturally responsive birth support! We are very grateful that Birth Comadres is a part of our sons’ birth stories and we wish all birthing families that work with Birth Comadres beautiful and empowering births! Tlazocamati (Thank you) for your labor of love! ❤️🙏🏽👶🏽

We are grateful to announce our collective of Birth Comadres has expanded to offer our community more services with our Home Away from Home initiative.

The funds that Start the Wave provided us in 2021 went towards 12 undocumented families we supported with our Postpartum care packages, which include a series of in-home body care sessions with the traditional Mexican rebozo, herbal remedies, more and most importantly, held space for birth processing with awareness and sensitivity to each family’s culture and traditions. Home Away from Home was born and we are delighted to have more birth workers join our team and continue to do this work.

Culture and traditions are an important part of the birthing process and healing. Better birth outcomes and postpartum care can create a shift on how that birthing person and baby view themselves and how they can now move forward as members of the comunidad. Because we have been working with the underserved community since before our inception, as volunteers and birth workers for non profits who offer free birth care, we were made aware of the community needs and desire to fill in the gaps in the continuum of care.

We are most excited about hosting our 1st annual benefit concert PACHANGA🎉SAVE THE DATE 🎈9/30/23 to help raise funds for these families we continue to support. Join us for traditional danza, live music, and a community of vendors educating and/or selling their goods.

En Círculo is a monthly circle for mamás, folks who want support and/or women who simply want to be in community, be heard and seen in a safe environment during this time of change and awakening with our Madre Tierra.

We thrive in comunidad and our healing space is safe to share and learn to connect with our sacred hearts, elements, and the love of our ancestors.

This month's theme, Reset & Reconnect: Spring into self-care w/ el Rebozo

Host + guest speaker, Irasema Reza Bailey, will be talking about the cosmovision of the rebozo and going over a brief history and the importance of self-care using this unique cloth.

This is an opportunity to give yourself permission to reset and learn practices of self-care for your wellbeing.

We are not alone and when we reconnect with others, the elements, and with our mind, body & spirit, we allow space in the subconscious mind to evolve.

We believe, the more support provided by the community to birthing folks the more likely they will be involved in their community. Which is essential to creating sustainable change in our communities and societies.

We feel it's important that all birthing people have access to care and support especially the undocumented community. Austin is a "Sanctuary City" and we have a large community of undocumented people, who often have trouble advocating for themselves due to living in fear of deportation.

Birth Comadres new project "Home away from Home" or "Cuidado como en Casa" will offer recovery body care after baby or loss of pregnancy. This will include womb/abdominal care, binding/fajadas and rebozo movements. We will offer herbal support and provide the binders and rebozo. This type of care is birthing person centered care not just baby care. We are aware of the physical changes of the body during the birthing process and how it affects our emotional wellbeing. Intentionally listening and holding space for their transition into parents in a new place.
