The Origin of the DEO

The Mastery Company (est. 1987) made the transition to the Dentist Entrepreneur Organization in 2017: programs and processes designed to enable dentist-entrepreneurs to build large managed group practices. The DEO consists of onsite programs, webinars, coaching calls, a private space for discussions, and access to a vast number of resources. The DEO is a highly supportive peer-to-peer group, where each member is genuinely committed to each other’s success.

The initial programs were a huge success: they were a vehicle for dentist-entrepreneurs to realize their visions. To effectively deliver the DEO programs, we ourselves needed to transform. We formed a staff of one full-time employee and two part-timers; we’ve since grown to a staff of eight, with a partner and CEO. We changed our business processes, our culture, and our communication structures. We went from caterpillar to butterfly.
