How did your Troop or family serve in honor of AHG's National Day of Service?
Twin Shores was proud to sponsor the annual gala, and partner with Variety Texas, a charity committed to empowering children with special needs.
Thank you for your continued philanthropic commitment to support, empower, and inspire children of all abilities.
Together with Liberty Ukraine Foundation, Rotary District 5870 Central Texas Central Texas and Variety Texas we were able to imagine first and then create a remarkable, first-of-kind experience for our Ukrainian refugee families in the heart of Texas.
50 Ukrainian kiddos, ages 5-13, along with their parents and volunteers were welcomed at the camp on Friday, September 2nd and spent 3 wonderful days together as a wholesome community. Their days were filled with various fun activities, smiles and laughter. And our hearts were full seeing the long-awaited sense of belonging for so many families, building a stronger, reliable friendships among Ukrainians and our American friends, and just escaping from the harsh reality of the ongoing war back in Ukraine and recharging for a bit.
The PK team and 55 Rotarian volunteers went above and beyond creating this space of happiness for our families and we can not thank you enough for all the every smile, every hug, every word of encouragement and support we all felt throughout this weekend. This means a world to us and our kids.
Special gratitude goes to the President and Executive Director Stacy Bruce - the soul of this project, who was on top of organizing her beautiful team and making it all possible - from a dream to the creation.
Brandon Pledger and Nikelle Tolman Pledger and their loving family for being there all the way, helping us with absolutely everything!
Shannon Coleman, Jeff Coleman, Rich Kaye for your generous support and kindness, and standing with Ukraine and Ukrainians during these devastating times.
Clarence Enochs, Kristen Barnes, Kat Lyons, Drew Schmidt, Andylyn Schmidt, Barbara Najera, Angela Tower and all the members of the PK family - our kids and their parents are forever thankful for putting the smiles on their faces, you all simply rock!
Huge THANK YOU from our Austin TX UKRAINIANS community, we feel so honored and humbled to have met you all and create this life-long memories together! 💙💛
Stay tuned for more!
The photos are from our ropes courses, olympics, and a fantastic Service Project our campers and staff did out at Peaceable Kingdom by Variety Texas.
RYLA finally happened, and it was fantastic!! Rise Up With RYLA took place July 17-22, 2022. You all have been asking for photos, and though it took a while to organize and compile everything, we hope you all truly enjoy them as much as we enjoyed camp!!
To our fantastic staff - thank you for all that you did to make RYLA so incredible. You created memories for our campers that they will never forget!! You taught them leadership and teambuilding skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.
Thank to Variety's Peaceable Kingdom Retreat for Children for welcoming us so warmly to your facilities. You helped us save our program from having to delay another year. We appreciate all of you. Your staff was so very helpful that week.
Stay tuned for more photos tomorrow or Wednesday!! Almost have them all!

Eight-year-old Amelia lives with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy, restricting her lower limbs. This meant she could not walk unaided and required a walking frame or a wheelchair. When Amelia was six, Variety funded Amelia to undergo Selective Dorzal Rhizotomy (SDR) at St Louis Children's Hospital in the USA. This life-changing surgery has improved the way Amelia moves every day; she is no longer in pain and doesn't have her tight muscles. This has given her a better attitude to life. Alongside regular therapies, her Mum's goal is to let her live an everyday life. One day Amelia would love to take a ballet class or play a game of soccer.

💞 This story may feel familiar as one of our biggest champions, ambassador Madi has also received this very same surgery. We’re happy to report Madi has progressed tremendously, more recently - shedding her walker. We see a bright future for you Amelia!

To celebrate ShowHeart our 5 day Charity Stream, we’ve been sharing stories with you from our charity partners around the world.
Here's a story that’s close to home! We’d like you to meet Gavi, our own ambassador and Volt Hockey champion.
Gavi lives with a neurological disorder that affects her voice and muscles. She communicates by typing into an assistive device and uses a motorized wheelchair to get around.
Variety provides inclusive play for children of all abilities offering a variety of integrated programs, services and sport. At 11 years old, Gavi is the first female Volt hockey player in Canada. “I really like Volt hockey because it is a sport that I can do. I watch a lot of sports like basketball, but there are not a lot of sports that I can do out there–but Volt is one of them.” says Gavi.

Variety’s program facilitators at Peaceable Kingdom identified a need for increased attention on special education students as they transition out of the school setting and into more independent living. To respond to that need, we have developed Teachable Kingdom: Transitions, featuring events like “Fun Fridays.”
These monthly Fridays benefit high school students who live with special needs and focus on recreation, communication, and socialization.
Variety’s goal is to provide the same young adults who are transitioning out of school a no-cost, consistent, and safe environment to interact and connect with peers - at their own pace - outside of traditional educational setting.

We recruited an outstanding Impact Team at Peaceable Kingdom by Variety for Summer 2022 but we want to spotlight a few standouts, like: WILL PLEDGER 🙌🏼
Will even won an award from the camp for going above and beyond what was expected. He was singled out for his willingness to jump in, to help however he could, and to always make sure everyone’s needs were met no matter the time of day or temperature! ☀️
We salute your hard work and positive attitude. Thanks for making an Impact this summer at PK, Will!

Cinemark’s philanthropic relationship with Variety of Texas has been sweetly described as a sturdy marriage between a nonprofit and for-profit company. (Awww ☺️) Cinemark is a corporate community that truly cares. And, as Executive Vice President of Design and Construction, Don Harton is emblematic of Cinemark’s passion to do good in their communities.
“Don recognizes the impact we make on real kids’ lives. He genuinely wants to serve the community and help make Peaceable Kingdom a better place for everyone.” Excitedly, Bruce continued, “ And then, Don does the work to makes things happen!”

Walter Hebert (2018) and Krista Schulte (2019) were the most recent honorees, prior to COVID. ⭐️
