Wheatsville loves local!
For the last 20 years, Steve Kramer and Carey Burkett have been farming 100 acres of fertile, high-iron, red sandy loam near Fredonia, Texas, about 107 miles west of Austin. Their farm, Buena Tierra Farm, produces some of the highest quality organic produce in the region. Swing by our produce department for their purple, red and Yukon gold potatoes!

Happy Chick Farms is a family-owned farm producing pasture-raised eggs located just south of Wheatsville in Lockhart. Happy Chick Farms provides a natural, outdoor environment for laying hens to produce some of the most outrageously good eggs that you have ever tasted.

This month we are supporting the Austin Humane Society as our Community Action Partner! Visit either Wheatsville location in August and round up your purchase total at the register to support the longest-standing no-kill shelter in Austin. Your contribution will go directly towards funding AHS's work to transform the lives of animals and the people who love them. 💜🐶😸

About 6 hours west of Austin, Mandujano Brothers Farms is a four-brother partnership most famous for its sweet Pecos Cantaloupes.
All crops in the Pecos area are irrigated with drip irrigation, a method in line with their other soil conservation measures such as minimum tillage and no-till planting. Watermelons and cantaloupes grow especially sweet in Pecos County because of the deep sandy-loam soils.

Community Action Update!

This month we are supporting Sustainable Food Center as our Community Action Partner. Visit either of our locations in July and round up your purchase totals at the register to support a more equitable Texas food system. Your contribution will go directly towards funding SFC's work to ensure everyone has access to fresh, culturally significant food 💜

Other Community Action updates:

- Our community raised $9,497 in register round-ups for Urban Roots in May and $8,067 for Meals on Wheels Central Texas in June!

- Wheatsville staff had a fun and fulfilling time delivering meals to Meals on Wheels clients last month.

For the fourth year in a row, we have chosen a local organization making a difference in the Austin LGBTQIA2+ community to be the recipient of our Pride Pin sale. This year we've selected Rainbow Connections ATX, the Q***r portal to all of Family Eldercare's resources and programming. RCATX improves the quality and vitality of life for LGBTQIA2+ older adults by providing connections, support, and advocacy in the greater Austin area.
