Want to donate to a good cause for Amplify Austin? Consider Meals on Wheels Central Texas, a group I've been involved with for years and who my dear friend Ian McKenna is fundraising for.

Ian is in college at UT and has spent 9 years using his skills as a master gardener to grow food for the food insecure and teach others how to feed themselves on a budget.
Anita Cabrera and her dog Kara are part of our LEAP program in Austin in partnership with the Meals on Wheels Central Texas PALS program. Anita says that she is thankful every day for all that she has, and especially for the care that Kara has received through the LEAP program. Kara was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma last summer, and while there is no cure, the care that she has received from her LEAP veterinarians and the love Anita shares with her has enabled them to have several more precious months together.

Donate to TVMF’s LEAP program today and help us care for families like Anita & Kara, keeping pets and their people together as long as possible: https://www.amplifyatx.org/organizations/texas-veterinary-medical-foundation
From loading 14,000 diapers (3 half-pallets full!) from Austin Diaper Bank to picking up 100 HOPE bags from Meals on Wheels Central Texas to collecting 75 decorated Spark Kits for Girls Empowerment Network , it’s never a dull moment around here!

Thank you to this Meals on Wheels Central Texas team for spending a few hours learning about our work in the community while lending a much-needed helping hand! Looking for ways to give back as a group? Sign up today! https://signup.com/go/MNHDojc
When I completed my Meals on Wheels Central Texas delivery, I decided to stop and knock a few doors. Cheryl was interested in the duties and responsibilities of the Justice of the Peace.

She was happy to put out an Angela Williams for Justice of the Peace Pct 2 yard sign. Thank you, Cheryl for your support and vote!
Meals on Wheels Central Texas could use your help. I try to volunteer one day out of the month to deliver meals in the local area. We have a local Meals on Wheels located at the Senior Bagdad Center in Leander.
ATX Good News salutes the unsung heroes helping our neighbors in need during the weather and water crisis. The Community Resilience Trust and a collaboration of nonprofits provided warm shelter and clean water to Austin's unhoused community.

β€œ Every single person has to contribute something because we're all part of the city and in times of crisis, we need it even more.” said Community Resilience Trust Co-Founder, Ruben Cantu

Another nonprofit, Meals on Wheels Central Texas, joined forces with Capitol Metro to deliver bottled water to their homebound, elderly clients.

In all, dozens of nonprofits and hundreds of volunteers braved the cold and took quick action to make sure the most vulnerable people in Austin had shelter and fresh water. That selfless giving is a great example of good news!

tyvm. so glad MOW is on the emergency alerts system; I got a call reminding me we got 3 weeks of food last Friday (1 week in one pantry box for the 2nd and 3rd week. Please post to people to sign on to WARNCENTRALTEXAS.ORG. I got an email from Travis County, a call from APH, and an initial call from WCT that community calls would becoming. I follow also Austin Emerency Management, and Austin City Government. I see Travis County posts in Next Door. And City posts. tyvm
😍 Our volunteer families were hard at work over the weekend on HOPE bags for Meals on Wheels Central Texas ! They’ve got some talent! 🎨
Hi, I'm new to this FB group, and I'm a low-tech kind of person. I've been coordinating my congregation's MOW for about 5-6 years now. We are now gearing up for the January M-F home deliveries. I have some questions to ask, but first I'll go ahead and see it there are some posts here that answer my questions. I love MOW, my mother used to get them when she was alive and lived in update NY.
Pets are an important source of companionship and love for our senior neighbors. For Meals on Wheels Central Texas PALS client Eloise P., her terrier mix Rocco is not only her daily companion, but he keeps her moving and going outside everyday.

Today marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month when we come together to celebrate! From September 15th to October 15th, we honor Hispanic and Latino Americans' rich and vibrant cultures, traditions, and contributions to our country.
Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to embrace diversity and recognize Hispanic and Latino Americans' unique and valuable experiences. This month-long celebration is a great opportunity to learn more about the histories, cultures, and contributions of the diverse groups that make up the Hispanic community, including those from Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Spain.

From the delicious food to the beautiful music, dance, and art, Hispanic culture is a tapestry of diverse traditions and customs that have influenced our country in countless ways. Whether it's the colorful and lively celebrations of Dia de los Mu***os, the energetic rhythms of salsa, or the flavorful dishes like tamales and empanadas, Hispanic culture has added immeasurably to the cultural fabric of the United States.

Hey friends! β˜€οΈ It's getting hotter out there, and we want to take a moment to remind everyone about the dangers of extreme heat, especially for our beloved community of older adults. πŸŒ‘οΈπŸ‘΅πŸ‘΄

πŸ”΄ Heat-related illnesses are a real threat, and older adults are particularly vulnerable. Here's why:
1️⃣ Decreased heat tolerance: As we age, our bodies become less efficient at regulating temperature. This means that older adults have a harder time staying cool when it's hot outside, making them more prone to heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

2️⃣ Chronic health conditions: Many senior neighbors already have underlying health issues such as heart disease, respiratory problems, or diabetes.
High temperatures can exacerbate these conditions, putting them at an even greater risk.

3️⃣ Medications: Certain medications commonly taken by older adults, such as diuretics or blood pressure medications, can interfere with the body's ability to cool down effectively. This further increases the risk of heat-related complications.

Let's look out for one another, especially those who are more susceptible to heat-related dangers. 🀝🌞 Together, we can ensure the safety and well-being of our neighbors. ❀️

Hey friends and family,
As we embrace the scorching summer days, it's crucial to raise awareness about the potential dangers of heat, especially for our older neighbors. πŸŒžπŸ‘΅πŸ‘΄
Did you know that extreme heat can severely affect their health and well-being? Older adults are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses due to various factors such as age-related physiological changes and chronic health conditions. Here are a few things we all should keep in mind:
πŸ’§ Dehydration: Older adults are more prone to dehydration as their bodies may be less able to conserve water. Dehydration can lead to complications like urinary tract infections, kidney problems, and even hospitalization. It's crucial to encourage our elderly family members and neighbors to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day.
πŸ‘οΈπŸ—¨οΈ Warning signs: Recognizing the signs of heat-related illnesses is crucial. If you notice any symptoms of heat exhaustion or heatstroke in an elderly person, such as excessive sweating, rapid breathing, headache, nausea, or confusion, please seek medical help immediately. Timely intervention can save lives.
