What this study* concluded:

Doing an adductor strengthening exercise (ball squeeze) abdominal hallowing or curl up and a combo of the two exercises can help FACILITATE pelvic floor muscle contraction, particularly in clients who encounter challenges in the understanding and performance of Kegels.

In a real life scenario I would do an internal pelvic exam and actually feel which exercise (ball squeeze, abdominal hallowing, curl up, piston breath, hip abduction, march, heel slide…) helps to make the pelvic floor muscle contraction stronger when they do the exercise and a Kegel together. Then that particular exercise is what they do for homework!

This is what the @ipa has taught me all along and I’ve been teaching my clients for years and years 😎✌🏼

You don’t need to have been pregnant to need PT as a mom. Mamas of adopted babies need PT!

Being a mom is a physical feat of strength! This mom and dear friend of mine has 5 kids! Recently, some horrible neck and scapula pain started for her, related to holding her 5 month old while, you know, multitasking ALL the things!

What we’re doing to get rid of that neck pain:
🪡Dry needling the cervical and thoracic spine
💪🏽Strengthening the spine, core, and scapulae
🚶🏼‍♀️Learning proper movement patterns for everyday life and workouts
😴Talked about options for sleeping position
👩🏽‍🍼Posture education and baby feeding positions
💆🏻‍♀️Soft tissue mobilization to get those gnarly muscles relaxed and working properly

The pelvic floor is a POSTURAL muscle (well, it’s actually a webbing of many muscles and fascia 🤓)!

The pelvic floor muscle group is a bowl or reverse dome that sits at the bottom of the pelvis, spine, and all of the organs. The pelvic floor has a lot of work to do to hold all of you up and together!

So, if you’re leaking p*e, p**p, or gas it’s likely that your posture is contributing. And I’m also saying that strengthening and coordinating your pelvic floor will improve your posture! 🙌🏼

I forgot to water my plant for a day (100 degree central TX heat y’all! ), look what happens. 🥀

This 👆🏼is how your inner core piston is supposed to work!

Look at my little boy using his abdominals to force that air out to blow his harmonica. His ribs are moving with each inhale and exhale.

Kids just naturally know how to do this - it’s innate! It’s functional! It just makes sense!

As adults...
Our posture
Our attitudes and stresses
Our physical and mental traumas
...change our breathing mechanics.

Well this is not a surprise. Just wanted to remind you of this, as I’ve been reading up on our fascia responds to our phase of menstrual cycle.

🩸the amount of estrogen and progesterone in the female body, cyclically (should) fluctuate throughout the month
🩸there are hormone receptors on fascia - fascia is the white tough fibrotic tissue throughout our body, basically keeping us in tact
🩸the integrity of fascia changes in response to the hormone influencing it

Wow! No wonder men and women move different, have different roles, compete in different sports, look different, etc

What are your thoughts? 🤔

Cupping! So helpful for lifting up and distracting the layers for tissue to create space and increase flow of blood and lymph.🌊

Soft tissue massage / mobilization is pushing the tissues in and down and across. Cupping lifts up the tissue! 🆙

And I make it functional by adding in the movement that is restricted. 👆🏼Got tight abs? This 10 week postpartum mom reported tightness with the cow position (part of cat/cow exercise). I had her doing her movement exercises while the cup was on 😉😆🙌🏼

Back in the 90s the Thigh Master was THE fitness trend - I’m here today to bring some attention back to the inner thighs! 🙌🏼 (you can purchase a Thigh Master on Amazon 😂)

These huge strong muscles ought to help stabilize and your pelvis when doing one legged tasks like walking and running.

To work them functionally...
do your squat while squeezing a yoga block between your knees
do single leg dead lifts
do side lunges

If you’re focusing on strengthening your 🍑 outer hips and glutes, you ought to balance that with strengthening your power house inner thigh adductors too! 🤔🙌🏼 💪🏽 @pelvicguru1
