Meet the doctor behind our mission. Dr. Celeste Sheppard is a maternal-fetal medicine specialist and founder of Tiny Hearts Project. With more than 3 decadesโ experience in prenatal sonography, she is focused on one of prenatal careโs most persistent challenges: the majority of congenital heart defects are still being missed in routine ultrasounds.
In 2016, Dr. Sheppard founded Tiny Hearts Project to change that. Since then, she and other luminaries in maternal-fetal medicine have trained over 1,000 clinicians nationwide how to scan the fetal heart with confidence, leading to vastly better outcomes for CHD babies and their families. Through lectures, hands-on practice and enduring materials, Tiny Hearts Project offers practical, easy-to-understand, and relevant training that clinicians can immediately adopt into their daily practice.

Babies born with congenital heart disease, or birth defects of the heart, benefit from being diagnosed before birth, but unfortunately most babies with severe cardiac defects are not detected on routine ultrasound exams. The Tiny Hearts Project training program is based on the proven strategy of offering training, both in the classroom and in hands-on sessions, to sonographers and physicians who perform prenatal sonography. Dr Helena Gardiner, a renowned pediatric cardiologist with a special interest in fetal heart screening, was a founder of the very successful โTiny Tickers" program in the UK. Tiny Hearts Project was fortunate to recruit her to be a co-founder of our program, bringing the expertise, evidence and experience to clinicians in the US.
We train the clinicians who are on the front lines of fetal imaging, when it matters most. Knowledge and confidence and in acquiring and interpreting the images in routine ob scans is what stands between a missed diagnosis and a life-changing one. We believe you can save a life with 5 essential views. Let us show you how!

A nonprofit on a single mission: improving prenatal detection of congenital heart disease, one scan at a time.
Since 2016, we have trained over 1,000 clinicians in the 5 essential views for fetal cardiac screening, an evidence-based technique proven to improve detection of cardiac birth defects that routine ultrasounds too often miss. When detection happens before birth, families get time to prepare, care teams can plan ahead, and babies get the best possible start. That is the work we show up to do every day. And we are just getting started.

One out of every 100 babies is born with congenital heart disease (CHD). Most are discovered after birth when the newborn becomes critically ill, which comes as a complete and unwelcome surprise to the parents and pediatricians. Because itโs better for the infant, family, and medical team to know ahead of time when a cardiac defect is present, and because nearly all severe CHD is detectable on routine ob ultrasound scans, we are focused on improved detection in every training we offer.
Join our founder Dr. Celeste Sheppard for a hands-on fetal cardiac screening tutorial in Austin, TX. This half-day session is designed for OB/GYN sonographers, students, physicians, and radiologists who are ready to scan the fetal heart with confidence and
change outcomes for their patients.
You will leave with refined clinical technique, renewed confidence, and 2.75 SDMS credits.
