We are watching a humanitarian crisis in Afganistan unfold, and it has left us shocked and frozen. The people of Afghanistan and Our Afghan allies need our support. Women, little girls, people of the LGBTQ+ community are at risk and in grave danger, and we must act now. It is our moral duty to help and do something.

I am linking some resources below and in bio where you can donate, sign up to volunteer to help. Afghan refugees will be arriving in the US in four places we currently know of- Fort Worth, Houston, Seattle/Tacoma, and DC.

Mom rage is one of those experiences where the mother figure experiences uncontrollable emotions of anger, frustration, heart racing, clenched fists, and stress in the body. Maternal rage also brings about feelings of shame and unworthiness.

Maternal anger can also be a symptom of postpartum anxiety, depression, lack of support, lack of connection, etc. However, sometimes it has nothing to do with postpartum, and it is a stress response. The pandemic has heightened mother's experiences of anger and frustration.

Maternal anger is not openly discussed because it can bring about feelings of shame, and its often not met with compassion and empathy.

Maternal figures need connection, support, empathy, compassion, acknowledgment, help, love, and encouragement. We need to start talking about feelings of grief, sadness, loneliness, and stress that maternal figures experience.

Emotional attunement in a relationship helps you recognize your partner's emotions and creates safety, desire and passion. Years of being with someone can give you familiarity, but emotional attunement is the key to a healthy attached relationship.

If one recognizes an emotional disconnect in the relationship, couples therapy can help heal it.

As I sat down yesterday to put what little energy I had left into writing (hello 9th month), I quickly realized that I hadn’t saved my work.

While almost everything feels overwhelming right now, I acknowledged not letting this, too, pile on my list of “should have’s.”

Instead- what an amazing opportunity to be vulnerable about what I’m sure we have all gone through.
Is this message of acceptance as important as what I had tried to write?
Perhaps.

Go easy on yourself.
1 year into what has been unbelievably challenging for most, and the smallest things can start to add up.
Go easy. Go slow. Reintegrate as you can.

As you stand in solidarity with the Asian-American community, please make sure to begin (and continue) the work to dismantle the systems of white supremacy, racism, misogyny, xenophobia, and the intersectionalities of it all.

For more education on how to understand the pain and trauma, I encourage you to visit this letter my Asian sibling Melody Li @melodyhopeli wrote on her Instagram page. I am also attaching resources via photos in this post.

A few other thoughts I invite you to consider and ponder on from a fellow Asian-American aka me, who looks different than my Asian American siblings being targeted and killed.

1. First, stop saying that white people who kill are "having a bad day". If you're having a bad day, you don't go around targeting specific ethnic and racial groups and murder them. You eat a FU***NG cookie, take a walk, get mental health support, talk to a friend, or take a nap. You DON'T murder people.

2. Stop humanizing murderers and START humanizing the victims and survivors. I am attaching the names of the women who were shot and killed. Say their name.

3. S*x addiction (also s*xual compulsive behaviors) does not lead one to murder and shoot people.

4. We have to stop treating the symptoms and get to the root cause of these issues: white supremacy, racism, xenophobia, misogyny, and how they all intersect in our American society.

5. Stop joking about COVID and calling it the "China virus" and "Kung Flu". Just stop! These "jokes" have led to racial tensions, and it all started with you know whom. I refuse to say his name.

6. Donate, volunteer, speak up, show up but please don't remain silent.

As we approach 1 full year of the stress, fear, and overwhelm that is COVID-19, how are you holding up?

Many of my clients, including myself, have expressed feeling everything from fatigue, to increased isolation, to increased anxiety, depression, sensitivity to triggers, and running on adrenaline.

The most important thing to remember is that this is new for all of us, and there is no one way we are "supposed" to feel. The collective trauma in the situation itself and the way it's been handled is novel and painful.

Please know that even though we may continue to distance, we are not alone in this.
