As I reflect on my battle with ovarian cancer, I wished there was a test for women of color to identify tumors as either benign or cancerous without undergoing surgery. Now, there is such a test called OVA-1 from Aspira Women's Health! I really want to get the word out to as many people as possible about OVA-1.
Aspira Labs are working to decrease the racial disparities in diagnosing and treating ovarian cancer.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our Chief Spokeswoman and patient advocate, Diane Powis, Ph.D. Diane was a brave fighter, mother, wife, colleague and friend. She was fiercely dedicated to women’s health advocacy, with a passionate focus on ovarian cancer. President & CEO Valerie Palmieri reflects, “Diane was more than our chief spokeswoman, she was a great warrior in our mission right to the bitter end of her own incredible and courageous war with ovarian cancer. Diane is the ‘Why’ behind what we do. Our mission and the force behind it are louder and greater than ever because of Diane and her legacy.”

As we take a moment of silence today to honor Diane, we invite you to watch Diane doing the work she loved — raising awareness of ovarian cancer — not just to help her own daughter, but to help millions of women around the world.

Diane, all of us here at Aspira Women’s Health thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You will not be forgotten.

Ovarian cancer has been nicknamed the “disease that whispers” due to its vague symptoms. But, in reality, it’s yelling — and we need to listen. If you’re experiencing uncomfortable symptoms such as bloating, abdominal or pelvic pain, appetite loss, frequent urination, and weight loss, next steps can mean the difference between life and death.

OVA1plusTM looks at specific biomarkers and your menopausal status to detect your ovarian cancer risk if you have a pelvic mass and are planning on surgery.

It also represents the feeling of losing yourself and being consumed by ovarian cancer both physically and mentally. When I was first diagnosed, I felt an overwhelming wave of sadness and loss of control in my life.

I felt like my life was spiraling out of control and there was nothing I could do to stop it, but just listen to the medical expertise of my doctor and hope for the best.

The crow in this picture represents mortality and the realization that none of us are here forever. The black cloud and chaos surrounding the woman’s head represents all the thoughts that raced through my mind when I was told I had cancer.

This picture captures and conveys many messages to me that represent how I first felt when I received my diagnosis."
