We want to reiterate that we respect and understand every concern with this Opera House project. This is OUR neighborhood too.
As a long long term tenant at 200 Academy we have had several owners/landlords. Without exception, their goal was to find a way to get rid of Arlyn Studios and mow down this building. Our long term lease is the sole reason this property is not already a high rise or worse.
Chris Wallin/Spearhead Properties did not come into this ownership with the intention of preserving the history of this space and re-opening SOME VERSION of the Austin Opera House. (We are all aware that it cannot be the Austin Opera House of the past. SOME VERSION is what we believe in)
We are so grateful that Chris grew to feel strongly about preserving this history. We know that this will take a lot of compromise and a lot of back and forth. But if we are given the time and opportunity to work with our neighborhood, we know that we can find that compromise.
*We mainly want to clarify two things*
1. The future of Arlyn Studios IS affected by whether or not this project passes. We are passionate about continuing our beloved Arlyn and we are passionate about remaining a part of this neighborhood.
2. The messaging that needs to be heard and understood. We KNOW the alternatives to this project. If this amazing piece of Austin history is demolished, there is no doubt that the alternative will be far far worse than this thing that some of you are concerned about.
Please let’s take the time to come together and find a compromise. We will be putting together a happy hour at Arlyn in the near future so that we can all be in the same room and work as a team to do the best thing for our neighborhood.
The Austin Opera House could be revived as part of a development at 200 Academy Dr., but a group representing the surrounding residents argues a venue that size would create untenable traffic in the landlocked South Austin neighborhood. “Nearly nine decades. A long lifetime.
Hard to believe that it was sixty years ago I wrote a song called “Funny How Time Slips Away.” Wrote it when I was only twenty-seven, and I really didn’t know what I was talking about. Except I did. As a kid, I was only imagining a romance that had gone sour. As it turned out, my imagination was pretty good. Little did I know that one day I’d wake up and realize I have enough memories to fill a shelf of books.”
Happy Birthday Willie. Here’s to more songs and more memories. ❤️
10 years ago we asked if we could have the keys to Luck - we didn't really think we'd get a yes. The ranch had never been open to the public before, but we suppose our landlord saw some magic in this vision and knew how Luck could be a community for both artists and fans. We can't wait to share more memories from the archive, some never before seen performances, ticketed shows beyond Reunion, and to welcome new members to the Luck Family as we celebrate in 2022.
Thank you @willienelsonofficial for still being our landlord after all these years, forgotten permits, and broken noise curfews.
Happy Birthday to the one and only Jacob Sciba. We love you and hope you have the best day. You deserve it ❤️ Send Jake some love today!
There are no words. No words to truly describe how special Bobbie was, as a musician, a mother, a grandmother and as a friend. No words to describe how much we will miss her. One thing is for sure, Bobbie has made an indelible mark in music and the lives of so many. We will continue to celebrate her and her legacy everyday. Man, what a life, what a woman. We love you Bobbie ❤️

On behalf of Arlyn Studios
We want you all to know this.
We understand and respect the concerns of some of our neighbors. This is OUR neighborhood too. It has been since 1984. Arlyn is our home. Hell, our engineers spend more time in our studio and in this neighborhood than they do their own homes. We are fiercely protective of our neighborhood too. We don’t want high rises! We sincerely believe that Spearhead Properties and our team can and will address all of these concerns and actually make our neighborhood a BETTER place - not worse.
Most developers would want to scrape our entire building. Spearhead Properties wants to preserve it. I am grateful to Chris Wallin for this. Our team wants to secure the long term future of Arlyn Studios and will strive to make the entire property a hub for Austin music businesses; which our music industry is in dire need of. We will also strive to bring back the Austin Opera House. In a way that BENEFITS our neighborhood. Our area is called “Music Lane”. We want to bring the music back to Music Lane.
*We want to sincerely THANK ALL OF YOU for your continued support. Y’all bring the magic to Arlyn Studios!*
In 1977, what would become an Austin institution popped up on 200 Academy Drive. Willie Nelson had envisioned a venue that brought together all walks of life through music. And the Austin Opera House did just that. Performances from Stevie Ray Vaughn to Muddy Waters, Tom Waits, and more helped establish 200 Academy a hotbed of the hippie-soul-cowboy crowd that has long defined Austin's music scene.
Now, we wish to revive the creative spirit at the core of our city's foundation. The Austin we know today would be nothing without its history, and the Opera House is at the center of that history. Amongst the phases and stages that our beloved Austin has undergone, there is no better time to reintroduce the community to the institution that helped create it. In supporting this mission, we will also be able to preserve the legendary Arlyn Studios - Austin's premier recording facility which has lived on the same Academy Drive lot since 1984.
In consideration of local homes and businesses, we fully plan not only to comply with sound and traffic ordinances but to improve them. This is a win for our Travis Heights neighborhood. This is a win for our entire city.
We need your help: Join us in contacting the City Council to help champion the old Austin, and bring it back to the forefront with a venue that made us the "Live Music Capital Of The World."

We never had a plan for sequencing these tracks. They were never intended for release. After hearing the mixes and reliving the memories of that day we decided to sequence them in the same order we recorded them in, keeping time with the events of the day.
As we look back, twenty years later, we’re reminded of where we were, the lives lost, and the bravery of those who ran toward the danger when everyone else was running the other way.
These recordings are dedicated to each and every one them, and the idea that despite the heartbreak and divisions in our world, we can still come together over music.

20 years ago we were scheduled to record at Arlyn Studios in Austin on 9/11/01.
When we woke up that morning, we had no idea how the day would end, but we decided to keep our session on the books for the next few days, and record what we could in-between the hours glued to the TV.
Most of the songs would eventually be re-recorded and find their way to an album or two, but the original demos were never released and sat untouched.
This year, with the help of our dear friend and bandmate David Abeyta, we've dusted them off, digitized them, and we'll be releasing them in honor and remembrance of the lives lost that day.
That day's recording of "May Peace Find You Tonight" will be released this Friday, 9/3.
One of those days that reminds us why we love what we do. Absolute honor to have @amandapearlshires @lawrencerothman and Bobbie Nelson here with our @jacobsciba and @djsaint23 and Freddy.
“I take it not only a day at a time, but a moment at a time, and keep it at that pace. If you can be happy right now, then you’ll always be happy, because it’s always in the now.”
Happy birthday Uncle Willie. ❤️
