South Austin Dental

Hi, I am with Town Hall.
We publish a monthly welcome Town Hall Guide that is mailed weekly to all new residents as they move into your community.
Our Welcome Guide is going to feature only one exclusive business inside each category, and I am searching for a Dentist in your area to fill that spot.
I would like to schedule a time when you are expecting me so that I may drop off a sample of our "Welcome Kit" and explain the program in greater detail.
Please message me or for immediate assistance, feel free to call or text me on my cell which is listed below.

How are your gum pockets? Part of your dental cleaning is checking the status and health of your gums, including the pockets where infection can loom. Gum tissue often displays symptoms when they are in distress, we just have to learn what to look for. Are your gums red, puffy or irritated? Do they bleed, even just a little, when you brush or floss? We can discuss this and more during your appointment.

Timeline photos 02/09/2022

What are gum pockets? During your dental cleaning, we measure and track the depth of your gum pockets. This is the amount of separation of your gums from your teeth. Healthy gum pockets will range between 1-3 mm in depth, gum disease will have pockets exceeding 4mm and may require more care. Returning to the same office helps us note when changes have occurred, this can help us provide you better care.

Do you angle your brush? Angling your brush so the bristles brush just between the tooth and gums can make a huge difference in your brushing technique. Gum disease often begins when plaque or tartar slips between the tooth and gums. Take a moment to brush along the gum ridge and remove debris as you go.

Timeline photos 01/17/2022

Do your teeth feel clean? Are you looking for tips to improve your brushing routine? Rotating or oscillating electric toothbrushes have proven benefits over manual toothbrushes. Studies show that patients who use electric toothbrushes have less decay and healthier gums.

Holiday parties can be fun, and full of sugar. If you're looking for a quick tip to remove sugar from your teeth, we recommend keeping some sugar free gum nearby. Gum can remove food debris from your mouth and increase your saliva production to help wash particles away. We want you to have fun and protect your smile.

Timeline photos 12/22/2021

You can enjoy the foods of the holidays and protect your teeth. We know the fun of celebrating the holidays often comes with yummy treats, and we hope you are enjoying the occasional treat. Think of how to care for your teeth after you consume sugar. This may include drinking water, swishing some water in your mouth, or maybe even breaking away for a quick teeth brushing. Have fun, just keep your teeth in mind as well.

Are you waking with tightness in your jaw or facial muscles? This could be a sign of bruxism. For many patients, gnashing of your teeth while you sleep is a temporary disorder, but the damage can be painful and expensive! Do you gnash or grind your teeth while you sleep? Bruxism is a common sleeping disorder that rises during times of stress. Is brushing with baking soda a good idea? Many patients have asked about baking soda, and the answer is, sometimes. Baking soda has a slight abrasion that is good for removing surface stains and clearing away plaque. Baking soda does not contain fluoride and it won't leave your mouth feeling minty fresh. If you want to try it, place a small amount of baking soda in a dish and mix with water until you make a paste. Brush and then rinse. Baking soda does not replace the benefits of toothpaste, so it should not be used regularly.

Timeline photos 12/08/2021

The toothpaste aisle is long with enough varieties to make anyone wonder which is best. When choosing a toothpaste, we recommend seeking a toothpaste that contains appropriate levels of fluoride. Many toothpastes boast whitening power, though they often do not contain whitening ingredients high enough to make a noticeable difference and may cause sensitivity to your teeth. Choose the flavor that best suits you to help make brushing a pleasant experience. We are happy to discuss toothpaste options with you during your cleaning appointment.

We can provide guidance to help your flossing be more productive. When flossing, don't just move the thread up and down between the teeth, instead move the thread is a swooping, or letter C, formation. This will help scoop debris out instead of simply mashing it down. Flossing will make a difference in your oral health. We can demonstrate this technique and more, ask our team for tips.
