Talented Savage ART
Artist My name is Keith Amador. I'm a local Houston artist. I have been doing art since a very young age, probably about 6 years old.
I pursued my artistic goals all through high school and in 1997 I went to The Art Institute Of Houston. It wasn't really my scene because as an artist, I am very hands on and there it was mostly about computers. In the last few years I have found that oil painting is my passion.

A GCTC student recently earned statewide recognition at the TCSAAL annual competition. The event brings together charter schools from across Texas showcasing excellence in academics and arts. Competing in the painting division, widely regarded as the most competitive category- with the highest number of entries, he submitted an original acrylic piece titled The Devil Cries. The artwork served as a deeply personal representation of his transformation, symbolizing his decision to turn away from negative behaviors and commit to positive change.
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that this was his first experience working with acrylic paint. Over the course of more than a month, he dedicated himself to refining the piece, demonstrating patience, discipline, and perseverance throughout the creative process. With the guidance of GCTC Art Project Leader Keith Amador, he strengthened his artistic abilities while also developing the confidence to express his story through art. His commitment and growth were ultimately recognized with a State Silver Medal, an outstanding accomplishment in such a competitive field.
This recognition represents resilience, self-reflection, and the courage to channel personal growth into creative expression. At GCTC, students are encouraged to discover their strengths and redefine their futures through opportunity and support. Achievements like this highlight the power of education, mentorship, and belief. When students are given the tools and encouragement to succeed, they can transform both their craft and their lives.
Work in progress.
Need to paint the frame, some more tiny details and a clear coat.
I’ve been working on this painting in my spare time. Hour here, thirty minutes there, it’s a look into my bedroom at 7 years old.
As a kid weekends were packed with action figures, watching movies, eating Domino's Pizza and pounding 3 liter Dr Pepper in my cardboard fortress.
