All I can say is WOW. First of all, Brooke is a seasoned clinician, skin care expert and badass, know-it-all when it comes to skin care and helping my skin to age gracefully. I have talked to a lot of cosmetic acupuncturist and she blew me away with the depth of her knowledge of skincare...and more importantly how amazing my skin looked after 1 treatment (and I'm 50). She knows skin and how to work with deep understanding by so many years of experience.

You can see how much better the wrinkles on my forehead and around my mouth are now. I can't thank Brooke enough and HIGHLY recommend anyone who thinks Botox and Fillers are the only option for keeping your skin look as young as possible. Soo happy. :)
Previous skeptic, recent acupuncture convert here. I went to Brooke with the attitude "don't take offense but I don't believe in acupuncture." She wasn't the least bit insulted, instead she even laughed and said a lot of people didn't. I went to her because I have had a pain in my wrist after I broke my broken wrist last year (and I figured since it was complimentary why not). She put needles (painless) in places I thought had no business trying to pass themselves off as relatives of the wrist. But I gotta tell you the next day the pain was gone and has not returned! I was so impressed that I booked a package of 12 sessions. My elderly cat was recently diagnosed with arthritis so I thought "acupuncture would be perfect." Best part is was the support for acupuncture by my vet's office. She's incredibly nice and gentle and I'm telling all my friends to go see her for whatever ails them. You must have her show what she can do for your face (like take 10 years off) Just like botox!!!

A natural, holistic approach to health and wellbeing. Specializing in cosmetic acupuncture and skincare. Acupuncture studio in North Austin, Texas.

All modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat what ails you. By appointment only.

So, one day as a lovely patient in her 70s was on her way out my door, she turned and said in all her wisdom, “I want you to internalize how many people are thankful they know you.” 🙏🏼
.
I was gobsmacked. 🥺 I felt like crying, it was a bit overwhelming. In that moment, I really felt loved. I let a crack of light in that is usually filtered by being focused on trying to do my job to the best of my ability, to provide a healing experience - it’s not about me at all - if you feel better, that’s my job, if you don’t, I rightly or wrongly put myself on the hook to do better next time. And I feel so lucky that I love my job. 💙
.
I think as practitioners, and as humans doing our best every day, we don’t really see the way we impact others in a multitude of small ways. All I could think right in that moment was 'oh my gosh everyone should feel this way, the way I felt when she said those words.' 🪐
,
So as I turn 58 this weekend and reflect as we do, my wish is that you take a moment to realize the same, soak it in, really internalize how many people are thankful they know you. If you’re reading this, you can count me as one who is thankful for you, guaranteed. 🙏🏼

I have always admired Ikebana, or Japanese flower arranging since a professor of mine created arrangements before class as a way to be mindful. Different attributes of composition not only reveal the beauty of flowers, but embody an elevated concept of the cosmos. 🪐
.
Recently, Ze gifted me this beautiful vessel from Kyoto, so I’m on my way to diving into the concepts - even the yin and yang of plant leaves and their placement. I only had a few stems and a few minutes before our flossing class, so I kept the first attempt very simple, without applying the study to be honest, more of setting an intention. There is much to learn, arranging from a philosophic attempt to conceive an organized universe, or achieve immediate oneness with the universe. Whoa!
.
Have you studied or tried Ikebana?
.
.
Thank you so much Ze, this is a gift I will treasure. 🪐🙏🏼

You can change how you use your skincare as the seasons change, customizing by blending, choosing a lightweight blend, or enriching when feeling more dry. With a deeper dive you will see YINA reflects the elements, which are dynamic, just like your skin. Find YINA at The Road and through the sister business The Desert Canary. 🌵
.
Pro tip, I rarely put nourishing oils on dry skin on their own (this is me, too), I mist my face first, so the oils have moisture to work with. Oils on their own are not ‘hydrating’ by their nature, more helping hold moisture in, soothe, nourish. Pat or mist a little fluid on first for optimal results. The YINA mist is by far one of my favorites. 💦

I have been DYING to introduce a new healing partnership by The Road. 🤍🤍
.
Kaita Mrazek is coming to The Road, offering her unique sessions of dynamic fascia work - through the lens of Chinese medicine. I’m always keen on staying in this lane of authenticity for healing. There’s a lot to unpack here, but what you need to know - fascia covers everything inside our body, head to toe - organs, bones, muscle, and it can be responsible for feeling stiff, stuck, achey, pain. Kaita is a brilliant pilates/yoga instructor who studied with some of the best in this expanding modality to dynamically move with your engaged muscles to unstick or ‘exfoliate' your fascia along the meridians. Aka, ‘flossing’ but with a twist. 🙌
,
Starting the end of the month, you can book with Kaita for one on one sessions at The Road. But you’ll want to put your hand up asap for her series we’ll be launching soon to do the work on the mat to unwind your own fascia, channel by channel. A series of six weekly sessions, limited availability to keep the class intimate. Hands up, or DM to learn more. This is such a game changer.
.
.

Series Details
Wednesdays
August 24 - September 28
6pm - 7:30pm
$400
Limited to six participants
Bring your yoga mat and tight bod

The neck, you say? We’ll get there! 💫
.
When someone wants to work on their neck area, we start with the health of the neck in its entirety, not just the part we see in zoom meetings. We tend to lean forward as we age, but this is accelerated with computer work, looking at phones, jobs that require us to look down/forward, or Netflix in bed with our head propped up.
.
Become aware of placing your head over you shoulders. Work with practitioners who can help you, from a PT, chiro, to an acupuncturist who is versed in body mechanics while you grow your habit of strengthening the muscles that hold your head in place.
,
Addressing head placement along with tight muscles on the front, including pectorals, the SCM, the traps, scalenes, and the platysma will begin to improve the front neck area where most of us see premature aging - sagging, lines, fluid trapped, and skin dryness. This tension also drags down the jowls in the face. Make sure fluid is not hanging out in the pocket slow the chin created from poor posture or muscle tension - you move this out with gentle massage, light cupping (done properly!) and guasha.
,
Also, treat skin of the neck with extra care, it needs more hydration, so make sure you are not stopping nourishing products at your face.
,
Guasha your neck, massage and guasha tension out of the back of your neck and shoulders. These are the habits that will keep you healthy and able, along with looking your best.
,
Sidebar, how great is this gentleman’s progress? We’ll continue working on his goals, but we the shift is impressive. He did the homework with his support system on posture. Giving him a ⭐️ for compliance and consistency. Swipe for more.
.
We’ll do more on neck wrinkles soon. 💥

Hair thinning can tank our self esteem. Just a friendly reminder, acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help you with your hair growth and re-growth. Heaps of us seem to have thinned in the last year (stress, hormones, stress affecting hormones, covid, etc), and most of us are gradually returning to a more full head of hair. If you need a boost, consider acupuncture and ancillary treatments - we usually see this as a ‘blood/yin’ concern, but a diagnosis helps us tailor something for you around acupuncture, herbs, breath work, stress management, and nutrition. 💙💆‍♀️
.
Swipe to see the before .. the growth is two weeks later, only acupuncture and the little high frequency comb, and scalp massage. You can see the dryness prior - we are nourishing the area with acupuncture. All treatments for cosmetic acupuncture include addressing this hairline - a little crown of needles along these channels. Make sure your acupuncturist is boosting your scalp blood flow :)

One of the MANY reasons I love YINA skincare (stay tuned for the many), they always consider the whole body when providing elevated ingredients and formulas informed by Chinese medicine into rituals to build healthier skin and body. Every time I include a little body guasha in a session, I get the same response - that feels amazing (or oooo what is going on there with my body?). It is sooo good for you to guasha the body, so grab your tool, smooth in a glorious balm from YINA, off you go. Your skin, b***s, organs, and body mind will thank you. 🌕💛🌕

Welcome Fragrance 🌸👃🏻
.
The sense of smell is the most instinctual sense. It is the first sense to develop and is related to the limbic system where we connect an electrical interpretation of aromas to memories, good or bad. Losing our sense of smell can make us feel less connected to the environment, unable to gather information, and as a knock on, significantly lessen our enjoyment of food.
.
Yingxiang or Welcome Fragrance is an important acupuncture point (large intestine 20) for restoring our sense of smell, improving breathing, reduce sneezing, and help with other conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia, pain or deviation of the mouth, and more.
.
If you’re experiencing post-covid loss of sense of smell or taste, see your acupuncturist, we’ve had great success here restoring both. You can also press on this point (LI20) just to the side of the bulb of the nostril - press, stretching outward, and breathe deeply. 👃🏻🌸

The experience of sound and vibrations encourage the brain to shift frequencies, helping to induce deep meditative and peaceful states. The vibrations impact our nervous system and inhibit the stress or pain response. This is an amazing way to move into your weekend.

Lauryn of let me explain in depth the inner workings of cosmetic acupuncture on her most recent blog. I’m a wordy girl when I’m passionate about something, but it takes a minute to explain concepts of looking at the skin through the lens of Chinese medicine to the unfamiliar. 🌸
.
I so appreciate all the opportunities she has given me to share this message - I’m happy every time someone realizes there are alternatives that work with your skin and body/mind to keep you healthy from the inside out, head to toe.
.
I don’t think of what I do as serving worry over a wrinkle. I see people who are genuinely unhappy with their changing appearance as they age, and they have every right to their feelings - what they see is often a sign of depression, frustration, imbalances, illness, and lack of vibrant health. I feel pretty honored to use acupuncture to tune up their body/mind and in turn see vibrance reflected back through their eyes, face, qi, shen and yes, their skin. Link in profile.
.
Thank you for being curious, exploring, and generously sharing, Lauryn, and welcome to Austin!

The Road to Here

Treating with Chinese medicine is a journey, and if you’re here, you’re already taking steps to pro-actively manage your own health. As we age, we navigate what we consider our ‘new normal’ - what we accept, and what we’re not willing to accept. There’s nothing wrong with aging - we’re lucky to do so! I’m here to help you work with your body to optimize your health and the health of your skin - moving from fight or flight to rest and digest, to reducing stress and pain, and to being your best self. And to keep your skin as rejuvenated as your health allows, addressed with acupuncture, skincare, manual massage, microcurrent, and more.

There’s a new term called ‘health span’, and this is how I like patients to think of things in the big picture. You don't just want to live longer, you want to live your best life - able to move freely, sleep well, have energy, and feel peace.

That is how I practice Chinese medicine. I help you look and feel your best by reminding your body/mind what it is capable of. I’m here in Austin, but available to you online, as well.

Stay well, and I hope to see you soon.

Brooke
