On Friday, Alexa Capareda & Brent Baldwin perform the premiere of their new collaboration TIYANAK, inspired by the legend of the blood-thirst demons that haunt the Philippine jungles in the form of abandoned infants.

We would like to thank everyone who came out to make our "Future Forward" concert a tremendous success! It was a joy to hear an eclectic and diverse array of musical offerings from Sonya Gonzales, Tony Rogers, Adelante Winds, and Less Than 10 Music; thanks to all of you for your artistry. We are also indebted to 4th Tap Brewing Co-op for their continued partnership through the use of such a fantastic venue for what we do. Last but certainly not least, Fast Forward Austin would not be able to do what we do without the generous support of the City of Austin Cultural Arts Division.

Last, but certainly not least for our upcoming Future Forward show, is the Austin-based new music collective, Less Than 10 Music.
A little about the group:
"Less Than 10 is an Austin-based new music ensemble of performers and composers, whose unique creative voice is formed by intersecting the boundaries between technology, concert music, songwriting, and experimental music. Community oriented, Less Than 10 is dedicated to collaboration with emerging artists and composers, in the creation of impactful concerts that explore topics of equality, identity, and LGBTQ+ rights.
In addition to performing original works by its members, Less Than 10 has premiered works written for us by composers such as David John Roche, Brandon Scott Rumsey, and Phong Tran.
With Greater Than 10 we have performed works by Andy Akiho, Jason Treuting, Lori Latiman, Jason Thorpe Buchanan, George Lewis
We acknowledge that Less Than 10 is operated in the traditional lands of the Jumanos, Lipan Apache, and Tonkawa peoples."

Adelante Winds is a dynamic, multicultural chamber ensemble based in Central Texas focuses. Founded by Sabrina Stovall and Ruth Aguirre after attending the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival in 2012, Adelante Winds aspire to challenge perspectives on chamber music for winds. Meaning “forward,” ADELANTE is the group’s mantra. They push forward, challenging the status quo of woodwind quintet music, exploring new sounds and new repertoire. www.adelantewinds.com

In anticipation of our upcoming concert on Friday, November 19th, we would like to introduce our first artist on the program, Sonya Gonzales!
In their own words:
Sonya Gonzales is a sound artist from Austin, Texas.
Influences: Loops, Jasmine Guffond, Kyoka, beat frequencies, the Roland Scooper, Inga Copeland, cassette tapes and more.
Current lineup: Roland TR8, EHX 45,000, Roland Scooper, cassette players, FM radios, Ableton Live and more.
She will be performing with cellist, Tony Rogers (Austin, TX).
The performance will be inspired by Mica Levi's score from the Jonathan Glazer film, "Under the Skin."

Today, as a new President and Vice President are inaugurated, the Preamble to our nation's constitution rings out:
"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity..." Our government is never in its final form; it is always in-progress.
As a people, we push toward a "more perfect Union." As a people, we push toward a better realization of equality and the ideals of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. As a people, we ask the difficult questions and demand better solutions.
In "Anthem," composer Laura Mercado-Wright takes our National Anthem and re-imagines it, musically asking those difficult questions. Her "Anthem" is not a piece of blind, musical dogma that the National Anthem so often becomes. The premiere was part of Fast Forward Austin's 2020 showcase. Enjoy VAMP's moving performance.

Happy New Year! We just wanted to say a resounding "Thank You" to everyone that has continued to support Fast Forward Austin, as well as the artists that have made our work possible. We've had the continued privilege to be a part of the Austin community over the past ten years, and look forward to all of the meaningful collaborations to come in 2021!
