Your new best friend is waiting for you at Next-to-New! The antique Edwardian ring has been tested as 14 carat white gold (shout out to Ricky Wilson Jewelers!) and is set with a sparkling white diamond. This pretty petite ring has a delicately detailed openwork shank. For its dainty size, this elegant antique ring makes a substantial statement.

Currently offered for $345, this stunner won't be around long. Come try it on in the morning. We open at 10:00am Monday through Saturday and close at 4:00pm. 💍

"A kiss on the hand may be quite continental,
But diamonds are a girl's best friend."

Last week, we had a couple drive all the way from NORTH CAROLINA for an oriental rug they saw on an influencer post! Today, it's this couple from LONDON that are our newest fans. How crazy is that? High five to those of you who share with others about the beautiful merchandise at N2N and how all net proceeds go to Central Texas non-profits! 🙌

Nothing is more enjoyable than interacting with our customers and hearing their stories. Recently, we were blessed with a visit from this loyal trio. Anna, the precious woman wearing black has shopped with us for over 30 years! She LOVES N2N and comes in at least once a week to see what new treasures we have acquired. She arrives with her sweet daughter, Betty, who lovingly helps her navigate our sales floor.

The photographer who shot these great pictures last week is Laurie. She is frequently a sidekick to the fun. Laurie also shared the pictures from a few years ago when they were getting a good laugh trying on hats. Laurie says, "We decided with these hats, we were ready to attend a Royal Wedding, We are just waiting for the invite to arrive."

Well, until that day, you can stop by N2N to be treated like royalty! To us, you three are all queens. 👸🏽👸🏻👸🏽💖

SURE FIRE WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT AT N2N!

Actually, full disclosure, these exercise belt massagers didn't actually help you lose weight. Bummer, huh? Although many a beauty gave it a try. (Check out this video clip showing Grace Kelly giving it a try: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwQNUA0boQw). However, we can promise you the release of those magical endorphins when you laugh until your sides ache.

You can have this conversation piece in your den or exercise room at home. Currently offered at $60, it's a fraction of what eBay is offering it at and just waiting to go home with you. Come by from 10a - 4p Monday through Saturday.

But for everyone's safety, give it a whirl when you get it home. 😁

Looking at this extraordinary painting portraying a sun-lit harbor with ships sitting serenely under a misty sky would give any viewer the desire to go down to the seas. Entitled "Harbor, San Pedro, N.M.," it was painted by Russian Armenian Ovanes Berberian (the plaque appears to have misspelled his name!).

Berberian emigrated to the United States and in time, became a nationally renown plain aide (open air) artist, as well as a respected teacher and mentor to younger artists. Known for his confident and bold impressionistic brushstrokes and harmonious use of jewel-like colors, his works are found in numerous public and private collections.

Next-to-New is open Monday - Saturday 10a-4p. Drop in to see this true work of art currently offered at $945.00. 🎨

This beautiful bronze-colored vase features two graceful art nouveau nymphs in flowing robes and streaming tresses. Created by the Judd Manufacturing Company in Wallingford, Connecticut, the company produced a decorative line of fine-quality castings in bronze, brass, and iron, including book ends, doorstops, and vases.

Want to learn more about art nouveau? Visit the Next-to-New blog: https://ntnaustin.blogspot.com/2023/10/next-to-nouveau.html.

Of substantial weight, this piece may be bronze and is currently priced at $295. Currently, our store hours are 10a-4p Monday through Saturday. Drop in to see us!

This lovely lady seated in quiet contemplation is an original watercolor by Israeli artist Patricia Govezensky. She is best known for her stylized watercolor studies of elegant women in private repose against a background of vivid colors.

Govezensky was born in Tel Aviv in 1961 and raised in Jaffa, Israel. Her works have been exhibited not only in Israel, but at expositions and galleries throughout the United States, and internationally in Hong Kong and Japan.

The painting sits inside a cream colored mat in a gold frame. Finished size is 21.5' x 26.5".

Currently offered for $385. We are open Mon-Sat 10a-4p. Come see this stunning work of art! 🎨

This elegant organ is just what you might need if you want to re-enact your own version of "Phantom of the Opera" or get a Handel on your Bach (both George Frideric Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach composed music for the organ). 🎭

It is of vividly striped "tiger oak," a process of milling that produced oak patterned like a tiger's pelt, popular from the 1800s through the early 1900s. 🎹 For additional details about this organ, please visit our blog: https://ntnaustin.blogspot.com/2023/09/pulling-out-all-stops.html.

Currently priced under $250 to maximize the value of your "notes".

Come see it tomorrow - we are open 10a-4p.

One of the best things about Next-to-New is the unusual things that are consigned with us sometimes have a sweet story behind it. In the case of this precious crewel landscape scene, the story is literally behind it!

For Christmas in 1979, Jean Marie's family had a "special person" they were to give a gift to. Anne, also a member of the family, was the lucky recipient. Along with the art came a beautiful message that let young Anne know that Jean Marie had been thinking and praying for her during the many hours it takes to complete art like this. She hoped Anne would keep it when she became an adult and was setting up her own home and display for many Christmases to come. 🎄

Well, Anne kept it for almost 50 years and now it has traveled to our shop, ready for it's next adventure. Jean Marie, wherever you are today, we recognize that your gift was beautiful on both sides. Anne knew you were watching over her and praying for her for decades. That is the greatest gift of all. 👼

You'll Cherish this Chair! The epitome of mid-century modern design, this chair resembles the designs of renown American furniture creator Adrian Pearsall, with its low-slung design, soft organic curves, and wood accents. His innovative designs perfectly combined functionality with the modernistic aesthetic and they quickly caught on. You can learn more about Pearsall's amazing start, and subsequent success, at https://ntnaustin.blogspot.com.

Taking a Stand. . . . . . is what you'll want to do upon seeing this impressive and early example of an American art pottery plant or fern stand. Golden yellow pansies seem to pop out of the glossy deep greens and browns. It stands at 14.5" tall.

In 1880, Maria Longworth Nichols Storer founded Rookwood Pottery in Cincinnati, Ohio, the first American art pottery. Want to learn more about this company and the art form it inspired? Check out our N2N blog: https://ntnaustin.blogspot.com/

Currently, this unique piece of art is offered at $125. We are open every day but Sunday, starting at 10am. Come see us! 🌸

Just a shout out to tell you consignors how much you mean to us! 😍 Here's a regular Consignor, B.W., who stopped in not too long ago to say "Hi" before she was going to be unavailable for a while.

When we see you every week, or sometimes a few times a week, we get a little attached. In fact, you become like family to us. Our day is infinitely brightened by you stopping by.

Just wanted you to know... 💕

Since Roman times, purple has been the color associated with royalty. You will certainly feel like a queen when wearing this regal ring. The simple but elegant 14 karat yellow gold (see picture with 14K stamp) setting frames an astounding, scintillating (and sizable) stone of rich purple. We are not gemologists and certainly cannot make any guarantees, but considering the fine quality of this ring and the workmanship of the setting, the stone could well be an amethyst

Come see this beauty for yourself! We are open Monday - Saturday 10a-4p except on Thursday when we are open until 7p.

Can't end June without a salute to PRIDE month. At The Next-to-New Shop, we want each individual who walks through the door to feel genuinely welcomed and respected because they ARE genuinely welcome and every person deserves our respect.

Next-to-New is also a place of joy. Shopping is a joy. And, while space currently prevents us from carrying traditionally masculine clothing, we have a great selection of traditionally feminine clothing and have begun a gender neutral section in the last few months. No matter your gender or how you identify, if you enjoy wearing the clothing we DO carry, come see us! We guarantee you a joyful shopping experience.

Finally, if you have lost faith in finding a church home where you are welcomed exactly as you are, check out our sponsoring church, St. David's Episcopal Church and specifically our GLEE group: https://stdave.org/ministries/join-a-group/group-detail/219484/. 🌈

Are you as excited about the upcoming Barbie movie as we are? Everything Barbie is going to be H-O-T this Summer, including vintage Barbie, and her friends, sporting some of the same outfits as shown in the movie!

We've got the "Titian" Barbie from 1961, Midge, her sidekick (before she became "in the family way"), as well as Skipper, her little sister wearing her original outfit. Skipper is having friends over: her bestie Skooter and Ricky, who must be related to Allan because they both sport these hip swimming ensembles. Both Barbie and Skipper come with clothes, accessories (remember those tiny little shoes!!!), and their own carrying case.

If you want a quick bit of trivia on all these friends, check out our latest blog entry: https://ntnaustin.blogspot.com/.

These won't be here long (Ken already flew out the door in less than 24 hours), so whether it's for a young lady in your life to enjoy or a fun keepsake for yourself (we won't tell), hop in the car first thing in the morning. We open at 10am. Prices start at $40.

If you have Barbies, Kens, or others in your mom's house, bring them in to consign on July 6th. They'll be flying outta here like hot cakes!

06/29/2023

The Next-to-New Store will be closed on July 3rd and 4th so that our volunteers and staff may celebrate our nation's independence with family and friends.

June is the month for weddings and brides today aren't "registering" as they did in the past. In addition, Millennials and Gen Zers are into recycling, repurposing, and reusing! That's where your favorite resale shop comes in.

As Kathryn, our resident Carol Merrill (Boomer reference), is showcasing, N2N has a wide assortment of sterling silver pieces, silver plate, flatware, crystal, vases of every kind, and of course, china from casual to formal. For the price of one place setting at a "traditional" department store, come to N2N and get the bride a setting for four or six or eight! 👰

And, we are talking about the brands you know: Waterford, Gorham, International Silver, Wedgewood, and more.

Or, give the happy couple a gift certificate and let them buy what they need to set up their new home. 🏡

Finally, if you know our tag system, there are deals to be had since items reduce in price every 30 days.

Come see us Mon-Sat 10a-4p except Thurs we are open until 7 (although stay tuned for a change-we are going to EXTENDED summer hours! ☀️ ).

Yes, we DID say that yesterday would be the last day to feature Asian art, but we just couldn't pass up this gem!

This exquisite vintage screen is from India. Intricately carved and hand painted on both sides, the wooden divider features scenes of courtly lovers and elaborately dressed men and women in colorful traditional costumes, bordered by delicate floral designs. The screen, from the trim on the painted clothing to the pierced work on the screen, is lavishly accented with gilt.

Although the tradition of miniature painting existed in India perhaps as early as the 7th century CE in illustrations of Buddhist scriptures, the style of painting on this superb screen reflects the influence of the Mughal dynasty. To learn more, click https://ntnaustin.blogspot.com/2023/05/splendid-screen-from-india.html.

The screen would make a one-of-a-kind room divider. Come see it for yourself today. We're open until 7pm tonight. Other than staying open late on Thursdays, our hours are Mon-Sat 10a-4p. It is currently priced at $369.

Today is the last day of May and therefore, the end of our salute to beautiful, unique pieces of art celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander heritage. Naturally, we have to end with something you don't see everyday.

Space at a premium in your apartment? Do you love to entertain with an Asian flair? Have we got a piece of furniture unlike any you see on your typical shopping trip. This vintage Korean Chinoiserie Mother-of-Pearl Tea Table features two peacocks, along with other wildlife wading through ponds, foliage, and more. The thing you don't expect? It will fold up and easily store under the bed or in a closet. Plus, the table itself is low enough to the ground that you could use it as a coffee table or throw some poofs around it and have dinner!

Currently priced at $89, it's a work of art that is also a conversation piece and a functional table.

We'd love for you to come by and see it. We are open Mon-Sat 10a-4p except Thurs when we are open until 7pm.

Photos from The Next-to-New Shop's post 05/28/2023

As we continue to honor the art of Asians and Pacific Islanders, we want to share two framed works we currently have for sale.

First, we have this peaceful scene of a home nestled in the mountains. It was made using muted watercolors and is beautifully framed to set it off to perfection.

Second is this enchanting print of two Japanese ladies reading next to a tree. The detail of their faces is lovely and you feel like an invisible visitor glancing in on the moment.

Either piece would grace your home, but the colors are complimentary to the point they could go in the same room. And, for the price, you can easily afford both. The watercolor mountain scene is currently $24 and the ladies print is $28. Together, just a smidge over $50 which is quite a bargain given today's prices.

We'd love to have you look at these two drawings, along with the other art we have been showcasing in the last few days, when we open Tuesday at 10am. See you then.

Photos from The Next-to-New Shop's post 05/27/2023

Today's featured art form in our nod to Asian and Pacific Islander heritage is the rich Japanese tradition of ceramic pottery painted in shades of blue.

How about this Sake set? The flask is in the Karakara shape with a handle for ease of pouring, along with two beautiful Ochoko cups. Because it is a work of art, it sits on a wooden base for display. Originally priced at $44, they are on sale for $11.

The Yubin vase is decor typical of that seen during the Ming-Qing Dynasties and features playful children on both sides. It also sits on a decorative base that matches the lined, cushioned box. The previous owner was asking $122, but they are now 75% off - $30.50.

Both would be excellent additions, for a small amount of money, to any Japanese art collector's treasures! We will be closed through Memorial Day, but open at 10am Tuesday, May 30th. Please come see us then.

On today's post honoring Asian and Pacific Islanders, we are pleased to share some of the needlework we currently have in the store. Some is cross-stitch, some embroidery. All is intricate, colorful, and shows simple scenes from everyday life. If you have never attempted needlework, you might not notice how perfect each stitch is or realize how much time one of these pieces takes to produce. Each one would grace any room decorated in an Asian motif. 🪡

"Meow!" The momma cat is saying it's tea time to her kittens. This whimsical group kicks off our 7 day celebration of beautiful objects with an Asian/Pacific Islander connection.

A Henriksen Import collection from Japan, the momma cat is a hearty two-piece tea pot, perfect for a cup of Oolong tea. The two older kitties are helping her out - one is offering cream from his paw, the other will loose her head over some sugar. The kittens add spice to the family - one offering salt, and the other pepper. It's functional, clever, and delightful. PURRfect for your home.

The teapot is priced at $62, the sugar and creamer at $42, and the salt and pepper shakers are a steal at $17.50. No TOMfoolery here!

We're open Mon-Sat 10a-4p except Thurs when we stay open until 7p. Stop on by!

Bedding Down. . .
. . .which is what you do both figuratively and literally with this so-called Murphy bed. At first glance this handsome piece of vintage furniture appears to be a nice wood dresser. It even has a pull-out bottom drawer. However, open up the front panel and inside is concealed a folding bed.

Although there were various types of fold-up bedsteads before, in the early 1900s William Lawrence Murphy received patents for a "disappearing bed." Murphy beds became a popular space-saving device, either installed in a wall or hidden in a cabinet or dresser.

This example has nice art deco detailing on its handles and the wood itself is beautiful. The twin mattress has a groovy '60's pattern and sits on a sturdy wire frame.

Currently offered at a great price of $349, it's a charming conversational piece and quite practical for someone needing to occasionally provide a place for a guest to sleep.

Open Mon-Sat 10a-4p except Thurs open until 7p. 😴🛏
