The St. Edward's McNair Program provides services that will enable low-income first generation college students and students from groups underrepresented in college education to pursue doctoral study.

The McNair Scholars Program is named in honor of Ronald E. McNair, an African-American engineer, scientist and Challenger astronaut who was killed when the shuttle exploded upon liftoff in 1986. McNair scholars are undergraduate students interested in pursuing PhD’s who are typically underrepresented in their fields of interest. A majority are low-income and first-generation college students. Thro

Why McNair?

The McNair Program was instrumental in my decision to obtain a Ph.D. As a first-generation, CAMP scholar my sole focus was to get my bachelor’s degree and then immediately get a job right out of college. But during my time in the McNair program, I was able to learn about graduate schools and gain valuable skills by working on multiple independent research projects.

As I begin to think about my future academic endeavors and see how far I have come and how far I want to go because of McNairs support system, I say: ¡Si Se Pudo, y Si Se Puede!

Thank you to our McNair Alumni for sharing their insight on navigating the workforce after earning their Ph.D.! #mcnairforever #SEUMcNair

Thank you to our scholars who presented their research today! They were all amazing and we're so incredibly proud of their hard work!

We'd also like to thank Carl McNair, Dr. Ronald McNair's brother, for taking time out of his busy schedule to attend today!

It goes without saying (but we'll say it, anyway!), we could not do what we do without our alumni (who come to our symposia and ask questions), faculty mentors (who generously give their time and knowledge to mentor and guide our scholars), and our scholars themselves (who work hard for 8 weeks during the summer to conduct research, write, prepare for the GRE, build camaraderie amongst their peers, and present at the end of their research internship).

We will miss everyone but hope they have an amazing rest of their summer!

Thank you, scholars, for everything you've accomplished this summer! We hope you're as proud of yourselves as we are of you!

Today is the day! We are ready to kick off our 18th Annual McNair Scholars Research Symposium.

The greatest lesson I have learned through McNair is that I am capable of greatness. Imposterism can be really hard to deal with at times, but just in one year through McNair I have accomplished so much academically. McNair has shown me that with some hard work anything is possible.

Recognition Reception 2021

Each spring the St. Edward’s University McNair Scholars Program recognizes our scholars’ achievements with a reception. This year we had a virtual reception on April 30, and our speaker was Dr. Albert Venegas, SEU McNair alumnus and recipient of the 2020 National TRIO Alumni Award. We also created a virtual recognition program along with our annual newsletter, The Orbit.

We invite you to view our scholars’ achievements and their reflections on their McNair experience in these two documents designed by our talented Maria Gomez!
