Established in 1902, Student Government is the official voice of students to the UT Administration, the Board of Regents, and the Texas Legislature.

Student Government (SG) was established in 1902 to serve as the official voice of the student body at The University of Texas at Austin. All students-including undergraduate and graduate students-are members of Student Government. SG represents the student body to the administration of the University, to the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, to the City of Austin, to the Texas Legislature and to the US Congress.

Members of @utsenate and @ut_sg conducted a survey from April 12-23 about students’ experiences during the winter storm, and compiled the findings into a report. This report will be vital to advocating for additional Pass/Fails during the May 3rd Faculty Council meeting. We encourage all students to help with this initiative by emailing their professors and encouraging them to support increasing the maximum allowable number of Pass/Fails. Swipe to the end for the links to the report and the email template!

Just spoke with President Hartzell and he CONFIRMED that students in need of meals will not be turned away from on-campus dining halls, and will receive a FREE meal.

EIDs are taken solely for verification of student status, not for charging meals. Students will also not be charged retroactively if you previously put down your EID.

We are so excited to be launching our brand new Q&A styled forum, SG Connect! 💻❕We noticed that our website has not provided the most comfort when submitting questions, as it can feel the submission is just going into a black void. To avoid this feeling of detachment, increase transparency, and create a more accessible line of communication between us and the student body, our friends @txproduct helped this project come to life!

We hope you’re as excited as we are, and we cannot wait to answer all your questions! 🤩

Statement from the University of Texas at Austin Student Government Executive Board and Assembly Board on the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election:

Following a tumultuous week, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were announced Saturday morning as the President-elect and Vice-President-elect of the United States. Any emotion you are feeling this week, be it excitement, exhaustion, hope, disappointment, fear, or something else altogether, is completely valid. You are not alone. This is a historic and fresh moment for our nation, and in addition to other changes, we have elected the first ever Black and Indian-American woman as Vice President of the United States. We as Longhorns recognize the importance of this feat.

We want to thank UT students for exercising their civic duty in an unprecedented election. Despite the dual threats of voter suppression and COVID-19, roughly 2 in 3 Texans turned out to vote, achieving the highest voter turnout in Texas in 30 years. We also wanted to congratulate those who mobilized their communities to get out the vote, many who were UT students. This election saw historic voter turnout from communities of color, and that is in large part thanks to BIPOC and other organizers that made that happen. Your vote, and your voice, matter, and it is one step of many to advocate for yourself and your community.

Our values remain focused on supporting all students and creating a sustainable, flourishing student community at UT.  We are here for you, and now is a time for us to come together as a University. We realize that making progress in our country is not finished with a single election, and we must continue to stand and fight for human rights and equality by advocating for and uplifting the voices of all students.

We also recognize that this week may have taken a large toll, so below are some resources that we encourage you to use. We will continue to share resources on our social media as they become available. Remember to wear a mask, practice proper social distancing, and prioritize the safety of yourself and others around you.

Hook ‘em 🤘🧡
