Children are especially perceptive and will watch how their family members move through a time after the loss of a family member. A change of a traditional family celebration will compound the loss for children, “I don’t have my father and now I won’t have Christmas either.” Discussing what the family might like to do can be empowering for children. This may be difficult for the adults, but be patient, and allow the younger generation to express their thoughts and ideas.

I lost my beloved husband recently. I was devastated. He literally took care of me. Several years ago we did a pre-planned burial for both of us. Just let me tell you it was one of the best things we could have ever done. We had no children and during this time the folks there took me by the hand and helped me through everything. Everyone was so caring and professional. I was so impressed with the chapel setting, the flowers the casket and even the area where excellent food was available for the guests. I can't say enough about Dignity Memorial, and I recommend them to everyone. Several family members have even told me that they are making appointments for set up their own plans there. Thanks for making my experience easy and a great celebration. - Bettye M
A Winter Solstice blessing:
May you find peace in the promise of the Solstice night,
That each day forward is blessed with more light.
That the cycle of nature, unbroken and true,
Brings faith to your soul and well-being to you.
Rejoice in the darkness, in the silence find rest,
And may the days that follow be abundantly blessed.

Public funerals are designed to celebrate both the dead and the American nation itself. They all provide opportunities to unite Americans, even through times of uncertainty.
At the age of 16, Clare lost a schoolmate, David, in an accident but met his brother, Andrew, at the funeral. It was love at first sight. They believe that coping with the tragedy of David’s death at a young age helped them to face the peaks and troughs of life. “We both had hit rock bottom,” says Andrew.
The biggest holidays are usually the hardest to deal with if you've suffered a loss of a family member. Have a Plan A/Plan B ready. Give the loss a voice and a place. Have everyone share a story at the dinner table—maybe a Christmas story. It doesn’t have to be morbid. It can be a funny story of your loved one.
Grieving while also facing costs they may not be prepared for can be an incredible strain on loved ones—but having a prepaid funeral plan helps to ease at least one of those burdens. Prepaid funeral plans are a good choice for people who want the peace of mind that comes with knowing their families will not be unnecessarily burdened financially or emotionally when they pass away.

At W**d-Corley-Fish, we’ve helped families honor their loved ones for over a hundred years. All of our conveniently-located chapels are peaceful, soothing places for your family and friends to gather for remembrance and recollection.

Built in 1954, W**d-Corley-Fish North Chapel is a warm, welcoming environment for your family during this difficult time. From the moment you step inside, you are immediately met with traditional, timeless décor, calming colors and an abundance of natural light. A beautiful courtyard with a flowing fountain and bench seating is situated in the center of the funeral home, providing a peaceful place

What to Say When Someone Dies | Condolences & Sympathy Messages

When someone dies, the best support we can give is often not in the form of words but in the generosity of our presence. You can offer companionship, share memories, say the name of the person who has died, and remember that your support matters.

What to Say When Someone Dies | Condolences & Sympathy Messages It’s hard to know what to say to someone who has lost a loved one. Here are a few ways you can be supportive and compassionate at a funeral and in the months and years following.

Our Story

For generations, W**d-Corley-Fish has been a household name in Austin, Texas. In the mid-1800s, Thurlow W**d and Jack Corley—both of whom were born into family funeral homes—founded the business on the philosophy of helping and serving their neighbors.

W**d-Corley-Fish North Chapel was the firm’s first funeral home, originally located at 17th and Lavaca in Downtown Austin. This location moved to its current building on North Lamar in the early 1950s. Soon after, in the late 1960s, Jack’s son-in-law, Laurens Fish, Jr., joined the family firm.

The business continued to grow over the years, with the purchase of W**d-Corley-Fish South Chapel on South Congress in 1997, as well as the construction of W**d-Corley-Fish Lake Travis in 2008. A few years later in 2012, the firm acquired W**d-Corley-Fish Leander.

Today, Laurens Fish III and his dedicated team continue the time-honored traditions of generations past while bringing you an expansive range of options to suit your funeral needs. We are proud members of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers, offering the compassionate care you expect from the W**d-Corley-Fish family and the value you deserve.
