We discuss mindfulness in all aspects of our services. Mindfulness helps us refocus and algin our energy into what we are doing! Use butterfly breath to calm big physical energy. The gentle wing movements will release energy from the body leaving it feeling relaxed. The deep breathing will also help to calm big emotional energy, like any anxiety or anger. How to butterfly breath: 1. Close your eyes. 2. Stand with your feet slightly apart and your arms down at your sides. 3. As you begin to take a deep breath in, lift your arms out to the sides gently and slowly. Connect your arms with the breath and move them gracefully like they are light as air and flowy. 4. Lift your arms until the inhale is complete and then lower your arms back down while you exhale slowly through your mouth. 5. Repeat two more times
“The Arc of the Capital Area envisions a future where individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities can pursue full and productive lives, and their families have the support and services they need to not only advocate for but to empower their children… Together, we can make a better future happen… I thank you for your generosity. I look forward to seeing you out on the course for a day of great golf and a great time, for a cause near and dear to my heart.” – Ed Clements. The transition from adolescence to adulthood is a critical process, and it typically starts in high school. Unfortunately for children with I/DD, this vital transition often does not occur or fails due to the variety of hurdles associated with navigating a complicated system. When you #AmpTheArc you are supporting families by providing resources detailing next steps to take during this transition period. We provide support in developing transition plans for individuals preparing to graduate high school, plus host workshops and training for transition services such as special education, advocacy, guardianship, and more.
