respectfully, i’m done feeling like a working mom is the sad answer to anything

i keep seeing the same trends, i didn’t marry a loser this is me at 10am, i married a provider this is me at 10am, girl math, just treat yourself, live the soft life. every one of them is implying that having a job is the embarrassing choice and frankly it’s not.

73% of moms in this country are in the workforce (BLS, 2023). in nearly half of opposite-sex marriages, both spouses earn about the same. in 16% the wife is the primary earner (Pew, 2023). working moms aren’t the niche, we’re the norm.

i’m a working mom of two with a full time 9-5. my paycheck is the insurance, part of our 401k, half the mortgage. i started my career with a $28k salary and climbed the ladder for the past 14 years. i’m not “settling”, i’m showing up for my family and myself.

you want to work. you have to work. or you do both. all three are real and all three are enough.

send this to a working mom who needed to hear it today 🤍

every working mom has googled “is it cheaper to quit” at least once and don’t let anyone tell you they haven’t, we don’t actually want to quit (maybe some do but we can’t afford it 🫠), but once in a while you open the daycare invoice and your brain just goes jfc wtf is happening

honestly I love my job, I love my career, I’m 14 years in and I am not going anywhere, and ALSO sometimes I’m sitting at my desk between meetings crunching numbers in a spreadsheet like a frickin CPA wondering wtf I’m doing

so I ran the actual numbers and the numbers are insane. national average daycare is $13,184 per kid per year (Child Care Aware 2025), childcare prices are up 23% since 2021 and rising 1.5x faster than inflation, 20% of families now spend more than $30K a year on childcare alone (Care.com 2026), and the federal definition of “affordable” is 7% of household income, not met in a single state in this country.

an MSNBC piece this Mother’s Day said the typical American family needs $145K a year JUST to make ends meet. raising ONE child to 18 now costs $303,418, up 28% since 2023 (GMA, April 2026). 31% of parents are pulling from savings to keep daycare open

I’m not quitting, I love what I do, and also sometimes I open the spreadsheet and lose my mind, both can be true

my 18 month old unrolled the toilet paper while I was running the numbers, I left it 🙃

comment ORZO and i’ll send you the recipe!

working mom of two with a 9-5 here, by 5:47pm my brain is done and i’m not building dinner from scratch, so i keep a list of meals that take zero decisions, this lasagna baked orzo is one of them!!

dump uncooked orzo, broth, marinara, a splash of cream, garlic and olive oil in one dish, foil on, 400 for 25, then stir in rotisserie chicken, top with mozz and parm, 10 more til golden...

the orzo cooks right in the sauce so no boiling, no layering, no standing at the stove, idk about yall but that’s the only dinner i’m pulling off on a tuesday?!

want every default dinner i rotate? comment DINNER for Dinner OS 🤍

comment ORZO for this one, follow for a new default dinner every thursday

comment DINNER and i’ll send you the whole system

i used to plan dinner every sunday with a full coffee and big energy, then tuesday would hit after eight hours of work calls and i had nothing left to cook the thing i picked

so i stopped planning what we eat, and started planning how tired i’d be

every sunday i label each night by energy, not food, green, yellow, or red, takes two minutes

green is a night i can actually cook, a real meal

yellow is low, so it’s assembly only, quesadillas, a snack plate, ten minutes flat

red is the wiped-out nights, the late meetings, the back to back calls, so red is freezer or takeout, decided three days early, and it is never a fail because it was the plan

so now at 5:47 on a red tuesday i’m not standing in front of a cold fridge with a fried brain, dinner was locked on sunday

because the cooking was never the hard part, carrying it in your head all day is, that’s the invisible work, and this is how i finally put it down

the dinner OS is the whole thing built out for you, every night already sorted into green, yellow, and red, with meals filled into each one, so you just open it and go, no setup, no staring at the fridge

comment DINNER and i’ll send it to you

you are not behind mama and you are not failing, somewhere along the way we all got sold this idea that there’s a right way to do this and everyone else figured it out but you, and that’s just not true

the frozen waffles are fine, the screen time is fine, the 5:47 dinner is fine i promise, you keep grading yourself on a test nobody ever gave you

my kid had cereal for dinner last night while i answered work emails on the couch and bluey played for the third time, and you know what, they were happy, i was breathing, nobody died lol

if you’ve ever put your phone down feeling worse about yourself than before you picked it up, that bar was never real, send this to the friend who needs to hear it today okay?!

ok if you’re staring down summer with zero plan this is your sign, i did the whole thing in 20 minutes while my kids were napping and i’m not exaggerating

i’m a working mom of two with a full 9-5 so i do not have hours to research camps and map coverage and figure out the weeks nobody’s watching the kids, i made ai do all of it, the coverage map, the budget, the activities, the gap weeks, the whole summer in one sitting.

and the part that got me was the budget one, i moved two things around and saved almost $400 without changing a single plan, just from seeing it laid out 🫠

it’s literally june, you are not behind, you can still get ahead of this in one nap time, comment SUMMER and i’ll send you my full ai mom guide with 45+ prompts that run your whole summer, your budget, your activities, all of it

ok i don’t usually post stuff like this, but i’m a working mom of two with a full time 9-5 and you guys know my dinner systems and my scripts way better than you actually know me, so i finally put the whole thing in here, even the year i’d never want to do over 🤍

i almost didn’t post it, for the longest time i thought i had to keep all that separate from the page, like i could only show you the systems and not the actual reason i needed them so bad in the first place… but instagram is a highlight reel and most working mom creators telling you to quit your job and follow your dreams aren’t even in a real 9-5.

that was never my reality, a lot of us are breadwinners who need the insurance and the 401k and the stability and just had to figure it out, the systems on this whole page exist because i needed them and couldn’t find them anywhere.

anyway if you read all the way through, you’re not alone in any of it, and if you’ve got a mom in your life who’s been through a year like that, send it to her, she probably needs to hear it too 🤍

comment CLAUDE for the free 3-step setup guide for the claude project running my family ops 🤍

ok so i did the whole 5am thing for 90 days, quit at day 47, the only thing i broke was my own sleep 🤡

the morning was the same, the mental load was the same, the dishes were still in the sink, my brain just had less battery lol!

the systems keeping my mornings functional without an alarm before sunrise...

🤖 a claude project trained on our calendar, school inbox, and to-do list, every night it briefs me on tomorrow in 5 lines, i wake up knowing what today is.

👕 a weekday mom uniform, cool-weather sets and warm-weather sets that make me feel put together at drop off, i cycle them every week, no thinking required, obama and steve jobs energy 🙃

🥣 same easy breakfast on rotation, packaged options that don’t have awful ingredients, kids don’t even care!

🤝 my partner owns breakfast, i own dinner, freezer staples on both sides, nobody is martyred.

💤 paper plates can happen, dishes can sit overnight, laundry lives on the chair, no makeup at 6am, these are trades, sleep wins...

🏋️‍♀️ lunch workout, MWF noon, gym 5 min from my office, recurring calendar invite labeled “blocked” so nobody books over it ?!

🧠 the reframe behind all of it, psychologist roy baumeister’s decision fatigue research shows moms make ~35,000 decisions a day and every one drains the same battery as the big ones, that’s why mornings feel impossible, fewer choices is the move.

save this for the next sunday night brain dump 🤍

send this to a tired mom who’s been setting a 5am alarm and still feels behind...

comment CLAUDE and i’ll send you the free claude project setup, the foundation everything else is built on.

as a working mom of two with a full time 9-5, i saw what one company started doing for its employees and i genuinely have not stopped thinking about it, because it made me sit down and run the actual math on what childcare is costing all of us and the number is so much worse than we ever say out loud...

so here it is, daycare runs anywhere from about $600 to almost $2,000 a month for one kid depending on where you live, mine is $3,400 a month for two of them, and the average family is now putting around 27% of their whole income toward childcare when 7% is the number our own government calls affordable!!

which means most of us are paying close to four times what is supposed to be doable, and get this, families who cover both daycare and a mortgage are spending at least half as much on the daycare as they do on the actual house, so it is no shock that 69% of moms under 30 say they are done having kids, up from 35% a few years back 🥺

(those numbers are from care.com and the federal reserve if you want to go down the rabbit hole)

and look, i can’t make this bill any smaller, i really wish that i could, but the part that lives in your head, the planning and the worrying and the feeling like you are the only one carrying all of it, that part you really do not have to do alone

what does childcare cost where you live? i’m genuinely curious so drop it below, and if this one hit you, send it to the mom in your life who runs this math every month and never says it out loud, then follow for the real working mom stuff
